Abby grinned. “Good morning, officer.” Her head was propped up on one hand as she held the sheets to her chest with the other.
A smile flickered across Cooper’s face as his mind registered her presence. “Good morning.” His voice was gravelly with sleep.
So hot.Abby sighed as her eyes roved over him. “I could get used to this, you know.”
“Me, too.” Cooper rolled onto his side, so he was fully facing her. Their eyes locked as they both replayed the memories from the evening before. “Do you always look this pretty in the morning?”
Abby was surely blushing. She ducked her chin with a laugh. “You’re just trying to get lucky again, aren’t you?”
“Is it working?” he teased.
“A little.” She mimicked their banter from the prior day, inching her body towards him. “It’s going to take more than flattery, though, I’m sorry to say.”
Cooper matched her movements until they met in the middle of the bed. “Is that so?”
She nodded. “My performance is always so much better after cupcakes.”
“You want me to make you cupcakes?” he laughed.
“Make them, buy them, pull them out of a hat – I’m not picky.”
“You drive a hard bargain.”
“There’s one more thing,” Abby added. She leaned in and gave him a light kiss on the lips. “A promise.”
Cooper’s eyes drifted over her face as his lips curled into a smile. He raised his hand to her cheek, pulling her back to him, and kissing her harder. Abby let a moan break through when his tongue begged for entry. She let him in, her body molding against his as their kiss deepened.
She broke away, her breath already coming quick and heavy. “Promise first.”
“You’re killing me,” he said, his tone gruff and laced with lust.
Abby moved forward and pressed her lips against his ear. “Promise me you’ll do that thing with your fingers again.” She felt him shudder as his hand traveled down her hip, then landed between her legs. She squirmed, her breath hitching in her throat.
“This thing?”
Cooper’s eyes were fixed on her, watching her expression carefully. Her lips parted, a gasp escaping her when his fingers slipped inside her. Abby bucked her hips towards him, her skin flushing with heat, her body already quivering with anticipation. “Uh-huh,” she managed to squeak out, her forehead falling against his shoulder.
Cooper wrapped his arms around her and rolled her on top of him. Abby straddled his waist as her hair fell around them like a shield to the outside world. She would be content staying right here forever. Nothing else seemed to matter; nothing else existed.
She cupped his cheeks with her hands and kissed him again. Abby savored the sounds he made when she ground her pelvis against his groin.
“What about the cupcakes?” Cooper asked, pulling away, breathless.
Abby gazed at him, her eyes dancing. “What cupcakes?”
A grin crept across his face and he pulled her back down. His hands moved up and down her back as their mouths fused together and their bodies entwined.
Bliss.
Evening had fallen again, and Abby was in the kitchen making a late-night snack. They hadn’t accomplished much that day – sex, food, more sex… well, that was pretty much it. Cooper had a hard time remembering another point in his life when he had felt more relaxed. Atpeace. He had scoped out her property a few times throughout the day looking for suspicious activity, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Now that the sun had set, Cooper planned to keep a closer eye on things in between trying to keep his hands off of Abigail Stone.
Cooper watched as she fumbled with the omelet in front of the stove. He chuckled when she cursed under her breath, burning the first batch.
“I’m normally an exceptional omelet maker,” Abby said in frustration, dumping the charred eggs into the garbage. “I’ve perfected the flavor, consistency, and even the flip. This is your fault.”
He came up behind her, encircling his arms around her waist and pulling her back against his chest. “What did I do?” he wondered, bending forward, and kissing her neck.
Abby instinctively fell into his embrace with a soft sigh. “You’re distracting me.”
