“I’m bored.” I push up and bounce over to him, feeling the strands of my hair graze my arm.
He stiffens the closer I get, and I lean into his chest, my fingers crawling their way up until they’re locked behind the nape of his neck. Moments pass before I lean up on my tippy toes, brushing my lips with his.
“Kiss me?” The weight of his decision feels heavy when his arm snakes my back and locks to my waist. “Please?”
He grabs me by my hair, forcing me back until my ass collides with the desk. His mouth finds mine and when his tongue slips between my lips, I wrap my legs around his waist.
He forces me down onto the table with a firm grip around my throat, my scalp burning from the fracture. His hands find the buttons of my romper as he tears it open, circling my nipple with his thumb.
I lean up on my elbows, my hair falling over my shoulders.
“Do you thin?—”
He grabs me by the chin, forcing my mouth open. “Shut the fuck up. You don’t talk.” With his grip around my mouth, he tugs me off the desk. Metal fills my mouth before he shoves me to my knees, burying his fingers in my hair and tugging on it roughly.
With fumbling fingers, I unbutton his jeans and pull them down until his cock is in my hands. Flicking my tongue over the angry veins that pulse beneath the smooth surface of his skin, I leave a trail of blood behind.
This is what he wanted.
He’s always loved me.
I was his first and I’ll be his end. He just needed her gone before he could realise.
Chapter Twenty-Eight
priest
“You couldn’t lock her up there and call it a night?” Stella snares from behind her glass, watching as the waiters we’d hired for tonight move around the dining table.
“Yeah, Priest. Why don’t you lock her up there?” River’s accusations are sharp, and they hit their intended target. “And whydidyou spend so much time up there?”
River and Luna are best friends, more than that, more like sisters. I’ve never seen a bond quite like the one she shares with Luna, so it’s no surprise that she’s the angriest one in the room.
My phone vibrates against my thigh, and I pull it out to see Eli’s name flash over the screen. There have been few times where Eli Rebellis has called my phone, and all times have had to do with his daughter. This time feels different, as though I’m hiding a secret that I know I shouldn’t be keeping.
Do I tell him that she’s gone? That I’ve seen all I need to see to know that? Or do I wait. A smart man would wait, knowing that the second everyone finds out about Luna, it could very wellignite an internal war that no one would survive, because that war? It will be in-house.
“Priest…” Halen snaps her fingers in front of my face. The night isn’t even over yet, we had to find a way through it. “You need to fix this. Why the hell is she dancing on tables like a damn maniac?”
“He can’t.” War’s words stop me, and if he wasn’t so far away, my hand would probably find its way around his throat.
“Why do you say that?” I ask, leaning back in my chair.
Her humming tune dances down the stairs like a melody meant for a funeral. She is death more than she is anything else. I should have thrown her ass over a cliff and called it a day. Maybe War is right. Maybe I can’t.
My jaw tenses when it hits me. I’ve thought of myself as somewhat smart. At least when it comes to bigger-picture shit, but it turns out, I haven’t seen things for what they are for a long time. Overshadowed by my insistent need for her. It isn’t enough. It will never be enough.
But she is enough.
Just her.
The tune stings me in the ribs, and I feel my restraint wavering the longer it goes on. Her footsteps are hollow like her soul, but who she is to me is more than that. More than anyone knows. Will I forgive her, or have I already done that since she is still walking?
My eyes land on War. His brows rise over his glass in answer as if knowing what I’m thinking.
Asshole.
But don’t they know…don’t they know how much that side of me craves her. Needs her. So much so that I’ve allowed her to breathe even after she took the one girl from me who even came close to being enough to live without her.
