“Shut up, Luther,” I snarled.
He walked into my office and went straight to the bar. “I thought she was engaged,” he said, taking a glass.
“Not for long,” I clipped.
“Really? You wanna stay married to her?”
If I did, then she couldn’t marry anyone else. I wasn’t planning on marrying someone again. Love wasn’t for me. We’d been married for five years, and it hadn’t affected my life. Why let it now?
“I was kidding,” Luther drawled. “But the look on your face tells me you are seriously considering it.”
“I thought you told me to talk to Bane if I needed to talk about it,” I reminded him, wishing he would just stop talking altogether.
He shrugged. “I did, but here you are, glaring at me for looking at her and making up shit about needing to talk business in your office because of it.” He took a drink. “Someone needs to remind you how bad you are at marriage. Hell, Maggie moved continents to get the fuck away from you.”
As if he could say shit.
“At least she married me. You couldn’t even get Chloe to the altar. She refused your ass.”
He smirked. “And I am ever so grateful. Not that Chloe isn’t a beautiful woman, but she wouldn’t have been enough. I’d have wanted a variety. Not just one cunt.” He pointed his glass at me. “Which is why your marriage was a fucking disaster. You couldn’t keep your dick out of other cunts.”
My marriage to Maggie had had way more issues than my infidelity, but I didn’t want to talk about that or her. It was the past. A mistake made in my youth. Those days were well behind me.
“The fact that we have sons who are so fucking pussy-whipped confounds me,” he added, then took a drink. “Well, more so Levi than Kye. I saw the Kye and Genesis thing back when they were kids. He just lived in denial; plus, the boy has a lot of his momma in him. The faithful shit. But Levi?” Luther let out a chuckle. “He couldn’t be more like you if he tried. Then, he went and gotobsessed with a magic pussy. Must be the virgin thing that did it for him.”
I shook my head. The shit that came out of his mouth sometimes. I did not want to think about my daughter-in-law’s pussy. Jesus.

Convincing Stevie that Maui had to sleep in the crate tonight for potty-training purposes was not an easy task. She’d been sure that Maui would be sleeping in her room, preferably in her bed. I assured her when he was a little older, he could sleep with her, but not yet. The breeders had already started his training, and we were following the steps they’d given us to continue. Although the crate really bothered me, he seemed content in there.
Linc was keeping him in his room to get up with him and take him to use the bathroom during the night.
As negative as I had been about this, today had been fun. When Stevie had wanted the puppy that wasn’t for sale, I was worried, but Linc had magically made it happen. I didn’t think I wanted to know how much money his magic had cost.
Laying my head back, I closed my eyes as I soaked in the hotbubble bath. I was really going to be spoiled by this tub. The only things that would make it better were a glass of wine and perhaps some music. I should try and remember to bring a glass up tomorrow night.
A faint click had my eyes flying open, and I turned my head toward the door that led into the bedroom. What was that, and why did it sound like a door closing? I hadn’t locked the door because I wanted Stevie to be able to get to me if she needed me. Thinking it might be her, unable to sleep because of her worry over Maui being in the crate, I started to call out her name when Linc appeared in the doorway.
Gasping, I sat up, crossing my arms over my chest. “What are you doing in here?” I sounded breathless and a little frantic, but I was taking a bath!
He leaned a shoulder against the open door and cocked his head to the side as he studied me. His eyes trailed down as if he could see through the covering of bubbles, and heat washed over me from his gaze.
“I came to see you. And lucky me, I found you naked.”
The husky timbre in his voice was one of those things that made me stupid when it came to him. He didn’t need to know about it though.
I held my chin up and glared at him. “You could have knocked. What do you want?”
He smirked then, and the seductive gleam in his eyes caused things to start up in my core that needed to stop. “Would you like me to list the things I want? Or can I just show you?”
I stared at him as my breathing picked up.
“You weren’t wearing the dentist’s ring today,” he said, shoving off from the door and walking over to me.
I’d broken off the engagement with Hudson last night. It hadn’t gone well, and there had been some yelling on his part, which I hadn’t been prepared for, but it was done. All I had to do wasship this ring to him somehow. I didn’t think USPS was a safe option. But I could stop feeling guilty. He could move on with his life.
