“What are they doing?” Arran brushed his lips against my ear, sending a bolt of lust through me. Despite the gravity of the situation, I smiled. Every time he touched me, every breath of his that brushed across my skin, every look set of my own desire for him. We’d only been mated for less than twelve hours so the supernatural urge to mate hadn’t fully left us, and I hoped it never would.
“They’re scanning the tapestry, looking to see if there are hidden patterns.”
“I can’t believe that the Moirai are your grandmothers.” Hurrit twisted his head to look at me while still keeping his body between Gaia and me.
“Or that you’re a Valkyrie. I love your wings.” Arran ran his fingers over one, smiling when I shivered and let out a soft moan.
“My grandmothers—” I protested.
“Have already heard us. Besides, they’re otherwise occupied.” Arran turned his body, pressing it into my side, and allowing me to feel how hard he was. “Knowing that you are such a badass, but still submit so sweetly to me, to us, is turning me on.”
I choked out a laugh as Hurrit growled. Leave it to my mates—Arran in particular—to want to jump my bones in front of my grandmothers and a goddess while we’re discussing destinies, curses, and upcoming battles. If I didn’t already know that he was a Kelpie, I would have sworn he was an Incubus.
“That’ll have to wait, grandson—” Atropos’ voice came out of the mist before it disappeared.
“Although I like the way you think,” Lachesis interrupted Atropos while Clotho chuckled.
Lachesis glared at them, but the corners of her mouth twitched, and her eyes sparkled. “We’ve looked and there is a hidden pattern. One that had been obscured until now. They must have some powerful beings on their side or ours to have kept it hidden for so long.”
“It’s worrisome,” Clotho added. “It also means that you will need to carry Gaia’s banner into battle. Since nature has always been a part of you and your mates, having nature and fertility magic fueling you will help—”
“And will be unexpected by the others,” Lachesis added.
“This means you will need to travel to Kirby. You must find the other Valkyrie.” Atropos walked towards me with her arms open wide. “Goodbye for now, sweet girl. Now that you’ve mated and know who you are, we won’t stay away as long.”
After giving me a hug and kiss, she gave one to Hurrit and Arran while Lachesis followed suit, giving me a hug. But when she wrapped her arms around Hurrit and then Arran, she spoke, “Both of you need to go home. Go as a mated group and learn all that you can before the three of you meet up with the other Valkyries. Elin needs you both to know everything that comes with your creatures. It will help save you.”
My men nodded, but Arran asked about his banishment and how it would affect his quest for knowledge.
To my surprise, Gaia stepped forward. Her body settled into one form. “I, Danu, will ensure that the Kelpies welcome you back. You will carry my mark upon you and those who choose to challenge your right will challenge me.”
She placed her hand on Arran’s forehead. A shimmer of green magic surrounded him. And when it misted away, Arran stood with a new symbols representing water, earth, and wind surrounding his horse tattoo.
Hurrit grunted as his hand grabbed at his horse tattoo. As we watched, the same symbols emerged on him around his horse.
“Freaky.” Arran wiggled his eyebrows as Gaia, and I chuckled.
But my chuckle cut off when a searing pain wrapped itself around my biceps. Hurrit and Arran grabbed me, placing their hands on me, instantly stopping the pain. I held out my arm, amazed at the sight. Instead of a single horse, I had two horses with their necks entwined while the same symbols surrounded them.
“Now you all bear my mark and the power it represents.” Gaia nodded and then disappeared.
“Finally. I thought the stuffy old woman would never leave.” Clotho took my hand in hers. “Now granddaughter, if these two ever wear you out, just call out and I’ll willing step into your place.” She winked as I laughed with Arran while Hurrit looked like he’d just seen some old man’s hairy, naked balls. Not to be outdone, my other grandmothers offered their services as well.
When I finally caught my breath, I scolded them. “Now grandmothers, stop teasing my men. They’re mine. And I’m not sharing.”
“That’s what I wanted to hear, sweet granddaughter. To know that you will fight as fiercely for them as they will fight for you makes us happy.” Clotho patted my cheek before patting theirs.
The three sisters stepped back, held hands, and disappeared into a purple mist, leaving us alone in the blissful silence.
I yawned.
Hurrit lifted me bridal style into his arms. “Come, my fierce Valkyrie, my fated mate, my love. Let’s go back to bed. It’s been a long night. And while I know we have lots to talk about, but it can wait until after we return to BiFrost.”
Hearing our town name, and remembering the street we lived, I couldn’t stop the laughter that bubbled out. I hadn’t been alone for the past five years even if I’d thought I was. My grandmothers had been there, watching out for me and leading me not only to my men, but to my true past. How else would I have ended up on Valhalla Beach Road in BiFrost?
“Care to share what’s so funny?” Arran stroked the side of my face, pulling me from my thoughts. Only then did I notice that we were in the hallway outside the primary bedroom.
“Think of where we live and tell me my grandmothers didn’t have a hand in it.”
