“Morning.” He smiled at his boyfriend. Why did this feel so awkward? It wasn’t like they were really leaving Amy out. This was how they were every morning. Yet, it felt different now while she busied herself at the stove. “Is the coffee ready?”
“It is.” Kincaid let him go, turning away to grab a prepared mug before turning back to hand it to him.
“So, what was so funny?” Zach asked. “I could hear you laughing all the way down the hallway.”
Amy and Kincaid exchanged a look, identical smiles lighting up both of their faces.
“Flavor rapists,” they said in unison, to his utter confusion, then both cracked up.
Zach lifted the coffee mug to his lips to help cover his uneasy smile. They weren’t deliberately trying to leave him out. He knew that. They’d just been up and talking already, and he’d missed some things. No big deal. Not at all.
If only that logical reassurance did anything for the uncomfortable way his stomach turned over.
“Sorry, sorry,” Amy said, still snickering and sharing another glance with Kincaid, who started laughing again. Zach was torn between enjoying watching Kincaid laugh so hard, which didn’t happen often enough, and feeling out of the loop.
Of course, by the time she was done explaining how peppers—and seafood, apparently—were flavor rapists, Zach was chuckling, too. They hadn’t been leaving him out; he’d just gotten left out because he’d woken up later than them. That was something he could fix.
Probably.
He was sure as hell going to try. That would be better than feeling like the third wheel with two people who weren’t in a relationship—one of who wasin a relationship with him.

Updating the group chat meant going over a hell of a lot more than the night before. It also meant updating them on everything that had happened during the morning. Jeremy’s call. Kincaid’s defense. The fact that, apparently, Freddy was her lawyer.
She sat on the couch in her robe, the texts flying fast and furious, while Zach and Kincaid cleaned up in the kitchen behind her.
Morgan: Freddy will kick his ass.
Sam: Forget Freddy, I’m going to kick his ass if he calls you again.
Amy: I’m pretty sure Kincaid and Zach are going to kick his ass if he calls me again.
Carolyn: That’s so hot.
Carolyn was not wrong.
Once Zach had heard about Jeremy’s call, he’d gone on a pretty impressive rant, and she wasn’t entirely sure he wouldn’t have gone storming out to confront her ex if Kincaid hadn’t caught him.
It had been just as hot as Kincaid taking Jeremy on over the phone.
They were both really freaking hot. She still couldn’t believe she’d had sex with both of them last night.
If she wasn’t so sore, she would have had trouble convincing herself that she hadn’t just dreamed the whole thing.
Marissa: You should burn your wedding dress or something.
Sam: Oh my God, yes!
Sam: If YOU want to, that is
Sam: But I vote yes
Carolyn: I vote hell yes
Sam: Can we make s’mores?
