“So…find out anything interesting when you were out tonight?”

Her face flamed red as she looked away from me. I bit back a grin. Fuck, she was so cute when she was embarrassed. She quickly glanced away, scurrying over to the bed to hop under the covers.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“You have no idea, huh?”

Her gaze snapped to mine and narrowed sharply. “What exactly are you implying?”

As soon as she stepped foot outside the cabin, my guys had eyes on her. “I’m saying that you went somewhere. You must have been doing something.”

“Yes, I went for a walk.”

So, she was going to play it that way. “And what did you do on that walk?”

She still wouldn’t fucking look at me as she fixed the covers around her body. “I needed air. It’s been days inside this stuffy cabin. I just walked.”

“Uh-huh.”

She scoffed. “Of course you would say that.”

“Say what?”

“Uh-huh,” she mocked me. “Like I wouldn’t need to get out of here.”

“I have no doubt you would think so.”

Again, her sharp gaze met mine, but instead of the conflicted expression from earlier, all I saw now was fire. Which was fucking perfect. I wanted her burning—fucking raging at me if it meant that she wasn’t drowning in nightmares and flashbacks. I would do whatever it took to keep that darkness out of her beautiful green eyes.

“I wouldthinkso? I’m sorry, did I just hear you right?”

“Sorry, but it sounds like you’re just repeating everything I say.”

“Maybe that’s because you couldn’t possibly be saying the stupid things that are coming out of your mouth.”

“I can and I am.” I pushed out of my chair and stalked over to her, letting her see the darkness in my eyes. It had been building for days now, all the rage that had yet to be unleashed was barely contained inside me. “If you don’t remember, you were just in the hospital not that long ago. So, yes, I was keeping you here to help you recover for the trip home.”

“And did you ever think that I didn’t want to be locked in a room for days on end?”

“I didn’t think you wanted to be outside in the fucking cold,” I snapped. “It wasn’t that long ago that you told me you never wanted to be cold again.”

Her eyebrows slanted together in thought. Yeah, I knew all too well how conflicted she felt. She didn’t understand it any more than the rest of us that went through all this shit. She was desperate for normal, and she would fucking get that. I just had to be sure she was strong enough first.

“That doesn’t mean I want to be locked up or followed everywhere I go.”

She realized that instant what she had done. Her eyes went wide as she threw off the covers and scampered to the other side of the bed. But I was faster, running around to the other side to stop her from escaping.

“What’s wrong? Was it something I said?” I smirked.

She backed up, scooting to the other side, but I rushed over, stopping her again. She was trapped no matter where she went. “What do you know?”

“Oh, sweetheart. What don’t I know?”

The fire inside her burned hotter than ever. “That’s not fair. You shouldn’t have people spying on me.”

I chuckled at that. “Baby, they’re not spying on you. They’re here to protect you. Which you clearly need since you ran out of here and were creeping around other cabins.”

Her eyes widened. “What did they tell you?”
