We both walked back to the main path, trudging through the snow. I had completely forgotten about how cold it was, but now that my focus was off the naked couple, I couldn’t get my mind off the freezing temperatures.

“Wanna get some hot cocoa?” she asked.

“Where’s IRIS?”

She shrugged. “Probably out blowing something up.”

“I guess, but only for a few minutes. I managed to escape IKE by a hair today.”

We headed toward the main house where they had a dining room and cafe. If IKE caught me outside, he’d probably be mad, but I was enjoying myself too much to care right now.

“Has he kept you chained to the bed all night?”

“All night and all day. My ass was getting sore.”

“Girl,” she grinned. “I had no idea you were so dirty.”

I smacked her on the arm. “Get your head out of the gutter. I meant from laying around the whole day.”

“Oh.” She looked at me and frowned. “When was the last time you showered?”

I tucked my hair behind my ears, hoping that helped my tragic look. “Don’t judge me.”

“Hey, there’s nothing wrong with getting laid, but you smell like you joined that couple back there for a few hundred rounds. You might want to take care of that. You’re probably attracting animals as we speak.”

I flushed bright red. I probably should have taken a shower before I came out, but I was too worried about gaining my freedom.

“Do you think that couple is staying again tonight?”

“I would assume so. It’s after check-out. Why?”

“No reason,” she said a little too quickly.

I grabbed her jacket and stopped her. “Jane, we pinkie swore.”

“I know,” she said, shrugging me off. “Like I said, I was just wondering.”

I didn’t want to know what was running through her mind. I had the feeling that our little voyeurism debacle had put her mind on a one-track course that was sure to get me into trouble. IKE said she snuck around a lot when he first met her, and I had a feeling she was going to be doing the same thing tonight.

IKE

All this runningaround for fucking Chinese food. I couldn’t believe the lengths I was willing to go to for Isla. But she was worth it. Plus, being away from the cabin, I could conduct business without feeling guilty. There were things I needed to do, and I didn’t like talking about them in front of her. She had already been through enough.

“Order for IKE,” the man behind the counter called out.

I walked up to the counter and handed over the cash, waiting for my change. I glanced around, making sure I wasn’t followed. I’d been extremely careful since Isla was drugged. I knew she wasn’t up for a long trip home, which was a huge reason why I brought her to the resort.

But I wasn’t stupid enough to think that I could protect her on my own any longer. This whole situation had gotten out of hand, and I had to admit that I needed help. As soon as the Irish figured out we had Shawn, they’d come for her next as leverage.

With the food in hand, I walked out the door and scanned the parking lot. “Fox, how are we looking?”

“All clear. You know, I hate to point this out, but it doesn’t look like you got enough food for the rest of us.”

“That’s because I was ordering for Isla.”

I heard him scoff into comms. “Would it have killed you to think of the others in your life? I mean, I’m suffering, too. It wasn’t that long ago that I was in the hospital. I don’t remember you bringing me any Chinese food.”
