I chuckle to myself. Yeah, I bet he was.
Me: Perfect. Thanks for your help.
Anthony: Anytime.
The club gets comfortable, because even though she ordered everyone out, no one is leaving until they know she’s okay.
“What happened?” Dan asks.
I shrug. “Don’t know. When I got inside, she had him held at gunpoint. He was lying in the middle of the floor.”
The rest is her story to tell.
“Why’d you let him go?” Dan asks me.
“Oh, I didn’t.”
Chapter Forty-Three
Kelsie
Idrop the gun beside me and lie in the spot Matt just vacated. His cologne lingers in the air.
Beige. I think I’ll paint the ceiling beige.
Chapter Forty-Four
Tank
Petey walks in and drops a box on my worn-out couch.
“What’s this?”
“How the fuck should I know?” He takes a seat at the table after snagging a bag of chips out of my cupboard. He kicks his feet up and shoves a few in his mouth.
I open the box. The inside is filled with letters. They’re all to Kelsie from club members.
“No letter from her?” I continue riffling through them.
“Again, I know nothing.”
I stand up and toss the one I had ready for her at him. “Get the fuck out of my house,” I tell him, irritated as fuck all of a sudden.
I’m going nuts. She isn’t giving me anything.
His boots thud to the floor. “Fine by me. I’m getting real tired of this shit.”
“Well that makes two of us.”
Before he walks out, he pauses. “Good job nailing that kid. He’s going away for a long time.” He chuckles darkly. “That wasa shitload of coke. Jason admitted he got his drugs from Matt, so not only is the kid going down on drug charges but attempted manslaughter as well.”
“Yeah? I don’t know anything about all that. I guess we got lucky.” My gaze skims over a letter from Jackson to Kelsie. I already know all about Jason’s confession. I was the one who fucking orchestrated it.
He laughs. “I guess we did. See you tomorrow night, yeah?”
I lift my face to his, and he laughs again at my expression.
“Six. Don’t be late, or Jesse will cut your balls off.”
