“Matt is inside,” is all he says before hanging up.

My gaze goes to the wide wooden doors on the front of Kelsie’s place. That motherfucker.

I pull my gun and rush toward the door, swinging it wide open.

Matt is lying flat on his back in the middle of the floor. I walk over to him, my eyes scanning the unlit room as best I can. When I step over his unmoving body and stare down at him, he blinks.

“She’s going to kill me,” he whispers. His entire body is trembling.

“You’re blocking his view,” Kelsie says from behind me.

What in the fuck is going on here?

“Move,” she orders.

“Please,” he pleads quietly.

I step away from him, finding her sitting on the table, a gun pointed at the boy.

Cautiously, I hop up beside her, wrapping my foot around hers as it dangles over the edge. “Hey, little shadow.”

Her eyes are glazed over as she stares at him. I tip my head back, looking at the ceiling. It looks just like it did the first time I visited, except this time I know what it means to her.

“What are we doing?” I ask.If this asshole hurt her, he’s dead. I don’t give a fuck if the club likes it or not.

“We’re having a conversation.”

My gaze goes back to the young man on the floor.

“Did he …?” I ask, scared to hear her answer.

“No.”

I breathe a sigh of relief as we continue to stare at him quietly. The rumble of bikes coming down the road rattles the glass in the windows. She blinks but doesn’t move.

“I don’t think I can do it.”

I look at her. “You don’t have to. Let him go. Trust me.”

She takes a deep breath and drops the gun so it’s pointing at the ground. “Go.”

He jumps to his feet like a ninja and runs out the front doors. They slam shut loudly behind him.

We don’t have any time to discuss what happened because soon the entire club is at her door. When they find us sitting on the table, they all pause, guns in the air.

“Where is he?” Big Dan pushes his way through the crowd, stopping in front of me.

“I let him go,” Kelsie says, jumping off the table. “I’d like to be alone.”

“Did he …?” Dan asks me, his face pulled tight.

“No!” she screams. “Everyone out.”

And just like that, everyone vacates her space.

My phone lights up.

Anthony: Got him. Little fuck was going ninety in a sixty.
