“I’m sorry,Malaya,”He chuckled and didn’t seem at all sorry as he gazed down at the mess he made all over my belly. He pressed his forehead to mine before he kissed my lips gently and jumped from the bed. He returned a few seconds later with a warm wet towel and cleaned me up. “I should have been more prepared. I didn’t think to have the conversation about birth control or condoms.” He let out a breath as he finished wiping his mess from me. “I should have thought about your feelings but I was being a caveman.”

A laugh bubbled up from me. He was being so considerate, I didn’t know what to say or where to start. “I’m on the pill. I’m clean. Thank you for taking care of me.”

He tossed the towel into the corner of the room and climbed back into the bed. My body felt like a limp noodle and my mind was a little fuzzy but I was happier than I’d ever been. I couldn’t believe how good sex could be. I was on Cloud 9. When he wrapped his arms around me and pulled my satisfied body to his, my heart melted more. This was going to get very dangerous, very quickly.

Chapter Fifty-Six

Alexei

Audrey laughedat something the waiter said across the table from me and my insides flipped upside down. She was radiant in the candle glow. She’d hardly left my side since that morning in the shower. The only time she left was for work now, which wasn’t something I enjoyed but it gave me enough time to get my head out of my ass and get work done on my end. I didn’t care about anything else when I was in her presence. All I wanted to do was breathe in her soft scent and get lost in the feeling of her body. She was a bright light that I never knew I needed. She was the breath I was dying without. I hated it and loved it all at the same time. I’d never known this feeling of falling before, but every moment I spent with her I found myself deeper and deeper. I couldn’t stop.

Carina insisted Audrey come back to their house for a few days yesterday and I’d begrudgingly obliged. I supposed it was fine to share her, even though it went against every single thought inside of my head and this weird feeling inside of my chest. She starved the darkness inside of me. It was nice. It was strange. It was everything I never knew I needed. I was a sucker and I wasn’t mad about it.

“Thank you,” she handed her menu to the waiter and focused her attention back on me.

“How is Carina’s mother settling in?”

A strange look passed over Audrey’s features. “She’s enjoying all the time she’s getting with Carina now that I’m with you.”

“That didn’t sound happy.” I took a sip out of my wine glass to keep my face passive. Anyone that made Audrey unhappy or uncomfortable was a threat but when it came to Carina’s mother, she couldn’t be one. I would have to grin and bear it, no matter how much I hated it.

“She said I’ve sold my soul to the devil too.”

“Have you?” I cocked my head as I watched her.

Her lips tilted in amusement. “Hmmm,” She laughed and I wanted to crawl to her on my knees. I couldn’t wait to drag her back to my bed, my shower, my kitchen counter. Anywhere she would have me, I would fuck her. I would get lost in her. No surface of my penthouse was safe. “You’d like for people to believe you’re the devil. But you’re just a soft lover boy.”

I put my finger over my lips. “Don’t tell anyone. I’ll lose all of my street cred.”

She rolled her eyes and laughed again. My self-control was a thin thread. It was close to breaking. I wanted to drag her across the table and pound into her until she couldn’t move. We’d done that a few times in my home, but unfortunately, we were in a public, prestigious restaurant.

“Are you happy,Malaya?”

It could have been the low lighting or the candlelight between us but I could have sworn her eyes got glassy. “I’ve never been happier, Alexei.”

My name on her lips was enough to send me over. That thread was barely hanging on. If we kept it up at this rate, I was going to do what Ace did entirely too quickly for Carina. I was in a spiral.

“How are you feeling about the upcoming wedding?” It was supposed to be just a few weeks away, but now Carina wanted a custom dress from a little boutique. It pushed things back a bit. We hadn’t talked about it.

She leaned back in her chair and watched me. “I don’t know, I’m excited. Are you bringing a date?”

My grin felt wicked with all my teeth on display like a villain. Like a wolf ready to stalk his prey. Her eyes darkened and I was ready to leave before we’d even eaten. “Absolutely.”

“Is she pretty?” She took a sip from her water. She only drank water around me. It drove me wild. I wanted her to indulge but she said she wanted all of her wits about her when it came to me. I didn’t know if that upset me or set me alight.

“The prettiest woman I’ve ever seen.”

One of her eyebrows went up. “Oh?”

I leaned forward, my fingers steepled. “She’s making it difficult for me to even want dinner right now.”

“You think she’s going to want to be seen with you?”

I shrugged. “If she doesn’t I’ll annoy her until she gives in.”

“It’s worked before.”

A text went through and I glanced down at my phone. I didn’t usually have it out, especially when on a date with Audrey but Ace was on one lately and I didn’t want him coming after me.
