Another puff of smoke. Hell yeah, we’d fly him around. Anytime.
I shifted in place, and Boen handed me a pair of pants. “Are you okay?” I asked but kept my hands to myself. That went a little too well. I expected the shock to set in at any moment.
“It’s you. It’s been you all along. You must’ve thought I was so silly talking about dragons the way I did when you are one.”
Closing the distance between us, I brushed back his hair. “No. Never. I was happy to know you already loved dragons. It meant that there was a chance you could love me.”
“When did you know?” he asked, putting his hands on my waist. “Do dragons know their mates right away?”
“I knew the second you walked into the B&B. Your scent hit me and it was instant. That’s why I couldn’t let you stay somewhere else. I wanted you with me. In my den. My plan was to court you and maybe convince you to stay.”
“And if I didn’t want to stay?” he asked, pressing his body to mine. He and I both were already hard and needy. This wasn’t the way I thought things would go, but I couldn’t have been more pleased.
“Then I’d follow you wherever you go.”
“You won’t have to. I’m yours, alpha.”
We shared a kiss and before long, he reached for the button of my pants.
I closed my hand over his. “Not here. Let me take you to my bed.”
“Please…that is, unless you have any more secrets to share?”
“Only one,” I growled, running my hand across his groin. “I can’t wait to be inside you.”
Boen laughed and leaned his head against my chest. “That’s not a secret, Cyrus. Take me to your room already. Or would you prefer I call it your lair?”
“You can call it whatever you want as long as you let me take you there.” We stopped to gather the rest of my clothes and went back into the hotel. I had to say hello to some people, and Arnaud gave us a knowing look as we passed.
We needed another place to live; that was a fact.
“My dragon wants to mark you. I don’t want to do it in the heat of the moment and upset you.”
Boen stripped in front of me and got onto the bed. “Mark me, alpha. I think I’ve waited my whole life to be yours.”
Chapter Twelve
Boen
The thrumming of my heart in my ears was making it hard to think. I did not have a history of being bold with alphas, if anything, passive in waiting for them to make the first move. But maybe that was because I had never felt this way about any alpha who had crossed my path. Sure, I’d dated and even had a few short relationships, and the sex was fine. But when they were gone from my life, I’d never minded all that much, just moved on.
I never pushed anyone up against a door to kiss them, never stripped naked and hopped into their bed, cock jutting up into the air in anticipation. I didn’t even pull the covers up in shyness. Not with this man, this dragon, my dragon.
The very idea that this might not be forever stole my breath. Cyrus was a dragon—they mated forever, didn’t they? They did in my books, but did I have it right? If it wasn’t the case, I’d be grateful for every moment we could had together. It would give me memories to live on for the rest of my life.
Cyrus lay down beside me and tugged me against him, nuzzling my throat and sending shivers over my skin. “Are you cold, omega?”
“No,” I gasped. “Anything but cold.”
“Good.” He nibbled my earlobe. “Once I’ve marked you, everyone will know you’re mine.”
“Forever?” Why did I say that right after promising myself that any time with him was enough? “You don’t have to answer. That’s just the kind of thing to end a romantic evening. Please don’t run away.”
A long moment of silence made me even more scared. Now I’d gone and ruined everything.
“I’m sorry. I’ll go.” I shifted away from him, toward the other side of the bed. “I get it.”
An iron hand clamped around my biceps and stopped my forward motion. “Omega. Dragons mate forever. I thought that was clear from our conversation before we came up here, but I apologize for assuming. I asked if I could mark you because it’s a symbol of forever.”
