With a leap of faith she didn’t know she had in her, Cassie opened herself to him. Let him in. Let him see everything. Her hopes. Her dreams. Her commitments. Her failures and deepest fears. Her memories. For him, she would do anything. She knew that now. She was his. Forever.I yield. Everything. All that I am, I yield to you; my heart, my mind, my soul, my life.
Elation swept through Taeger as he accepted all that she was into his own being. Accepted her love for him, her sense of duty, her courage in the face of certain death. Accepted and shared her desire to build a family. Accepted her need for independence with an inner smile. She liked his dominance in bed whether she had admitted it out loud or not, but needed to assert her authority outside of the bedroom. He could live with that. Rejoice in it. He’d been in charge of too much for too long. If she wanted to make decisions for them, as long as her safety wasn’t an issue, he was good with that. Welcomed the respite. He reached for her. Embraced all that she was. He hadn’t known he could love her more, but he was wrong. She was truly everything to him now. Forever.
Abruptly, the electrical current disappeared, the glowing runes in Taeger’s sword fading. The silence was near deafening as they sank gently back to the ground. She was healed. Renewed. Powerful. In control. Cassie knew all this without having to look. Slowly the orb shrank until gone, once again resting in whatever space and time it had come from.
Their gazes locked. Held. Time stood still. Cassie could sense Taeger through their new bond, just as she knew he was feeling an echo of her as well. She snorted. “Don’t think I can’t sense what’s going on in that male brain of yours, buddy. I certainly do not need to be mastered in bed.”
Taeger laughed, his eyes full of mischief. “We’ll see, woman.”
Chapter Fifteen
Caldorian Base, Earth
Cassie could not believeanything she was seeing.
Not the group of aliens who’d appeared out of nowhere when she and Taeger took Ion to meet the king of the Caldorians. They were Lumerians, like Taeger, and they’d appeared as one, bowing before the small boy like he was exactly what Taeger said he was. A prince.
Royal.
Important.
She thought back to the long hours she’d spent with the boy wrapped in her arms on the Dark Ones’ ship and thanked god, or whatever the heck was out there, for bringing Ion and Taeger and all of these amazing warriors into her life. She’d have to file a report with her boss later. But that was later.
Right now she only wanted one thing, and he was walking her to their new shared suite deep underground, hidden below the Caldorian King’s Earth base.
“They’ve been with the Caldorians the whole time, and you didn’t know?”
Taeger’s hand moved up and down her back in a lazy way that made her feel soft and feminine and adored. “We scattered when Lumeria fell. I did not know of Falden and his Knights just as he had no idea we had survived.”
“With Ion.”
“Yes. He is the last of his bloodline.”
That made her sad, but then she thought of the adorable little boy and his bear. Those bright eyes. That smile. “He’ll be a real lady killer when he grows up. I doubt he’ll have trouble talking any woman alive into making a dozen babies.”
“Any woman?” Taeger growled in play and pressed her body to the wall as he used his palm to open the door to their new personal quarters.
“Well, not me, obviously.”
That earned her another growl and a slight nip from Taeger’s teeth on her bottom lip. “You are beautiful. Desirable. Andmine.”
“I think everyone knows that.” She kissed him, wrapped her arms around him. Touched him like he was hers, because he was. “What theydon’tknow is thatyoubelong tome.”
“I know.” He kissed her, his hard length pressing just right, making her squirm.
“Behave.” She shoved at his chest. “I have a surprise for you. Queen Sasha said she had it delivered to our room.”
That made him lift his head with curiosity, the pleasure on his face that she’d thought to get him something was a sight she wanted to see often. Perhaps he’d spent so long taking care of others it would be a shock to his system to have someone take care of him.
“Show me.”
God, he was gorgeous when he was bossy.
When he followed her to their bedroom, she smiled when she saw the small gift bag on the bedside table, complete with a bright, glittering bow.
Taeger headed straight for it until Cassie grabbed him by the arm and pulled him toward the bed instead. “Nope. Take off your clothes, Mister. And then lay down on the bed.”
“Do you think you can command me, female?”
