Her flight suit opened between her legs and he took full advantage, roughly tugging at the fabric until her core was open to his exploring fingers.
Wet. Hot. Ready for him, be groaned as the scalding heat of her burned his soul. He buried his face against her neck, trying to regain control. “Cassie.”
“Don’t stop.” She tugged and clawed at his shoulders through his armor. “Don’t stop.”
In seconds he’d freed his cock and aligned himself at the entrance to her core. Lifting his head, he held his forehead to hers, gazes locked as he entered her slowly. Purposely connecting them in the only way he could.
Cassie shuddered as he filled her and knew she would never recover. No other would ever make her feel like he did. She had to complete her mission, Earth’s survival depended on it now more than ever. But the thought of never seeing him again made the crush of his body, the heat of his breath on her lips, the deep green of her gaze as he took her…hurt.
She was in pain and she never wanted the moment to end. Better her heart ached than to never see him again.
Her body had other ideas. Gazes locked, she rolled her hips, just enough.
Once.
Twice.
The intensity of his stare made her come the third time and he buried her cries of pleasure with a kiss that stole her air even as a silent tear slid down her cheek.
She was leaving behind the only man she’d ever loved knowing he was fighting a battle against an enemy he could not defeat.
She was leaving him to die fighting like the warrior she knew he was. A Lumerian Knight. That’s what he’d called himself and the others.
A knight. Her knight.
She came again as he thrust, rough and hard and fast, gaze never leaving hers as he filled her with his seed and moaned her name.
Never had anything been so erotic. So powerful. She was broken now. Broken. Half of her heart would always be his and she was never going to get that part of herself back again.
When their shuddering stopped, he leaned in and kissed her one last time. Gently. Softly. The reverence there breaking her heart all over again.
He loved her. She could feel it. And she loved him. But they were soldiers. They both had a job to do and this thing between them wasn’t in the cards.
In silence, they separated and adjusted their clothing, attempting to put things to rights although they both knew that beyond the appearance of their clothing, nothing would ever be right for either one of them again.
“Taeger.” He glanced up, his armor perfectly in place, and she stepped forward to finger comb the mess she’d made of his hair.
He allowed her touch for but a moment before trapping her wrists in his hands. He placed a kiss on the inside of each wrist but shook his head when she opened her mouth to speak.
“No, Cassie. Say nothing. Go. Now. So I will know you got away safely.”
He pulled her close enough for one last kiss but when she clung, he gently set her away before turning around, exiting the fighter craft and placing his hand over the door lock.
The door slid closed, sealing her inside with her weapon intact but her soul broken.
“Damn it!” She slammed her fist against the wall where her back had been moments ago, taking pleasure, giving it back.
She stalked to the pilot’s seat and threw herself down with enough force to rattle her teeth a bit. “Stop sulking and get on with it soldier.” She used her most commanding tone and wiped the tears from her cheeks with ruthless force. “Stop fucking crying and get this ship in the air. That’s an order.”
Chapter Twelve
The ship’s controls were simple enough. Marcano had given her a crash course earlier, but she’d flown enough different aircraft, including the alien ship she’d crashed on Mora Five to start this entire adventure, to make flying this one feel like riding a bicycle.
Which was a bad thing, because it gave her time tothink.
She was up and out of the launch area within a few minutes. Ten more and she was watching Mora Five grow smaller and smaller on her monitors, and the alien ship bearing down on the planet grew larger and larger.
Looking at the data, she looked three times before nearly vomiting.
