“Welcome back, little one,” Dagan said and smiled.
“Am I in the hospital?” Sasha opened her eyes and looked around. It didn’t look like a hospital room. It looked alien. The beeping and whirring was coming from the end of the reclining chair-like thing she was in. Naked. She tried to cover herself and the chair moved with her. She looked closely and saw that she was actually levitating a few centimeters above the chair. It was very disconcerting to wake up naked and floating, and she flailed her arms and legs like any normal human would do, trying to catch herself even though she wasn’t falling.
“I’m naked!” Sasha screamed, “Sort of!” She was naked except for the many bracelets and rings adorning her wrists and hands. She was literally dripping with crystals. She might laugh someday about how ridiculous she looked, but in that moment, all she felt was her temper rising as she tried simultaneously to break her fall and cover her girlie bits, the bracelets tinkling charmingly as they bumped against each other.
“It’s just me, Sasha. Please, try to stay calm. You’re in the medical bay. Try to relax. You won’t fall.” Dagan pushed the red button at the end of the chair. Sasha was gently lowered until she felt the cool metal beneath her.
Sasha crossed her arms over her chest. “Thanks. I feel much better now. I would really like to have my clothes back, though.” She blushed.
Dagan leaned over her and kissed her forehead. “You do not need to feel shy around me, little one. I have seen you naked before.” He winked mischievously. “Besides, you weren’t wearing any clothes when we were brought here.”
Sasha glared until he relented and fetched a thin silky gray sheet to cover her. When she felt satisfied that she was sufficiently covered, she reached out toward him and he immediately took her small hand in his.
“Dagan, I’m so sorry I ran off,” Sasha began hesitantly. “I was feeling overwhelmed and, well, I should have stayed and talked everything out. When I was so sick in my hotel room, all I wanted was the chance to be with you one more time. Then I think Rachel showed up and she said some crazy stuff. I don’t know. Maybe I was already too far gone, because I dreamed up some really crazy stuff! Like giant orbs and strange glowing swords. And pain…” She frowned. “Lots of pain.” She gently touched her face, a look of confusion growing.
Dagan looked deeply into Sasha’s eyes for an endless moment. What she saw there made her gasp and her heart squeezed painfully. She saw love and longing. Hunger. Guilt. “Please. Just tell me,” she begged.
Dagan combed his fingers through his hair and sighed. “Okay, beautiful. Here it is. We rushed into your room, ready for war. The base was under attack and we thought you’d been poisoned. Or worse. But you hadn’t,” he rumbled, his tone full of shame and remorse. “You were sick because of me, Sasha, and I can only beg for your forgiveness,” Dagan said gruffly.
Sasha didn’t wait to hear any more. “It doesn’t matter. You love me.” She beamed. “Is it crazy that I know that? But I swear, I really know! It’s like I can feel it inside. And I love you, too. Nothing else matters if you love me, Dagan.” She pressed her lips to his, and that was all the encouragement he needed.
His arms crushed her to him as he ravished her mouth. He was instantly rock hard, and she wrapped her legs around his waist. She needed him inside her. She felt needy and wet. Her nipples peaked, and she greedily rubbed against his chest, wishing they were both naked. He grabbed her ass and ground her against the erection straining against his uniform. He needed the connection as much as she did. He ripped the sheet from around her and pulled his shirt off in record time. He used his expert hands to mold and knead her flesh as his mouth found the sensitive spot on her neck and set about renewing his mark.
Suddenly there was a brief knock at the door followed shortly after by no less than six Caldorians. Three females and two males in gray uniforms, and one male in dark hunter green. It was he who spoke first when he realized what he had interrupted. He bowed low but Sasha still saw the huge grin on his face. “Please forgive us, Your Majesties. We saw a spike in the monitors and knew Her Majesty was awake.”
Sasha gave only the smallest squeak as she dove for the sheet on the floor and wrapped it around herself like a sarong before standing and facing the crowd of medical people. They were all grinning. She was mortified at being caught like that, and her face flamed crimson before his words sank in. “I’m sorry. What did you just say to me?”
The doctor in green bowed again, this time without the smile. “I said please forgive us for the interruption, Your Majesty. I am Doctor Jorvin. We only wanted to check on your health. We are the physicians for King Dagan, and with your permission, Your Majesty, we would be honored to continue in that role for you.”
“Of course,” Dagan reassured the doctor.
“Oh, no!” Sasha cried out before the doctor could respond. “No! No! No!” She sank to the floor and curled herself into a little ball.
Dagan was beside her in a flash. He lifted her gently and took a seat in the overstuffed chair he been occupying while waiting for her to wake. She was trembling and he stroked his hand down the long length of her hair. “What’s wrong, little one? You were fine just a moment ago. Are you in pain again?” Dagan refused to put her back in the medical chair, not wanting to let go of her, her, so the doctors gathered around his chair.
Sasha looked at Dagan for answers, even though she knew he was just as much part of the illusion as the rest of them. “I’m still sick, aren’t I? And I’m unconscious? Dreaming that you’re here with me because that’s what I really want?” Dagan shook his head no, his eyes full of confusion and concern as the doctors began talking amongst themselves about residual shock and treatment options.
She uncurled a little and looked around with growing bemusement. “Or still in a coma, maybe?” Sasha stuck out one finger and tapped one of the female doctors gently on the tip of her nose. “This isn’t real. None of you are real. Especially not you.” She tapped the doctor’s nose again. “No one is that pretty. Not even models. I have such a great imagination!”
The room grew eerily quiet as the tiny red marking on the young doctor’s cheek, near the corner of her eye, briefly lit up with a fiery glow. It was no bigger than a teardrop, but held the focus of the entire room as it blazed with inner fire for the first time. The young doctor stammered, “Th..Thank you, Your Majesty.” She placed the tips of her fingers over her marking in wonderment. “I’m tingling all over, like I just spent a week in a pool of maju paste.”
“I think I’m going to change my mind. Being in a coma is going to be totally awesome.” Sasha smiled shakily and stroked Dagan’s whisker roughened cheek. “You’re a king and I get to be your queen, andI have magic powers. Totally my teenage fantasy,” she admitted. “I’m only dreaming that I’m awake, when I’m actually still unconscious,” she said regretfully. “Not such a bad way to end up, I suppose. I don’t even need a wand!” She reached out and tapped each of the doctors on their foreheads. Soon the markings of all six doctors flashed brightly for a moment before slowly fading. “See?”
Dagan wrapped his fingers around her outstretched wrists and pulled them in tight against her body, snuggling her in close. “That’s enough, little one,” he growled. “I am a possessive man. The only markings I want you to light are mine.”
“Incredible,” said one of the blue-clad doctors. “Even with the crystals, she still emits enough energy to light all of our markings with direct contact.”
“Yes,” said another with enthusiasm. “With no apparent drain on her whatsoever. How are you feeling now, Your Majesty?”
Sasha giggled delightedly, “Well, except for the whole coma thing, and not understanding anything the nice doctor beside you said, I feel great. Maybe a little hungry. I’d love a monster size Chicken Alfredo and a piece of chocolate cake. Not necessarily in that order.”
Dagan squeezed her gently and smiled. “Get the queen whatever she would like.”
“But, Your Majesty,” protested the doctor in green, visibly distressed, “She is the first to survive a subdermal penetration of the microbe in thousands of years. And she’s human! We have no way of knowing if her transformation is complete!”
“Whoa! Hold on!” Sasha tensed. “I absolutely do not have anything penetrating anywhere! I’ve watched alien movies. You better not be saying that I have a creepy worm thing growing inside me!” She cried out and twisted in Dagan’s arms, wrapping her arms around his neck in a stranglehold. “I want to wake up! Right now!” Panic swept through Sasha.
Was this her subconscious mind telling her to wake up because there was something alien inside her? How long had she been in a coma exactly? Her heart hammered in her chest, and she couldn’t seem to get enough air.
