“Mmm,” he groaned as every hot spurt of his seed caused her to clamp down, milking his huge shaft. “That’s it, little one,” he gritted through his teeth. “We’re almost done. Try to focus. Breathe.” He slowed his breathing and hers slowly followed suit. She nodded when she felt ready to continue and placed her hands on his biceps.
“Good girl,” he encouraged, placing a kiss on her swollen lips. “Did you willingly paint my body with the sacred maju paste, and allow me to do the same to you?”
“I did,” she groaned, barely able to concentrate on his words as his still hard shaft bumped her cervix and she spasmed deep in her core.
Dagan waited until her grip on him loosened before he continued, “Do you trust in me to care for you and protect you as my own?”
“I do.”
“Do you accept all that I have to give?”
“Yes.”
“Then I claim you as my own, and ask for witnesses to attest to the validity of my claim,” he rumbled deep in his chest, satisfaction clear in his voice.
In unison his warriors spoke the traditional Caldorian phrase, “Your claim is witnessed and valid. May your line ever be blessed.”
Chapter Seventeen
Dagan stayed inside her for long minutes after he had spent himself and the others had returned to their places, only removing her blindfold when they’d had time to return to their places. He leveraged his upper body above her, resting his weight on his forearms so that she could breathe. She lightly stroked her fingers from his shoulders down his heavily muscled arms, and back up again. He kissed her tenderly, and she knew she could stay happily like that forever.
“Dagan?”
“Mmm-hmm?”
“I’m sorry. We did it again. I never needed to think about it before. I’m still not protected,” she blushed.
“Trust me, little one. You are being very well protected at all times. I would never let anything happen to you. Do you feel that I have not protected you in some way? Is there a human threat for which I have not been made aware?” he asked, looking around for possible threats.
“No. Nothing like that,” she soothed. “I meantweare not protected.”
When this failed to elicit a response other than a raised eyebrow, she felt the red of embarrassment suffuse her chest and spread up to her face. She would bet even her ears turned red. She could feel the burn. Even after the intimacies they had shared over the past few days, it was still difficult for her to vocalize her thoughts and feelings. She stared at Dagan, hoping he would figure out what she was trying to say without her having to explain again.
“Little one, I have promised to protect you, and you have promised to trust me to do so. If you believe my protection is in some way lacking, you must trust me enough to speak of it.” Dagan gently brushed a wisp of hair back behind her ear, then kissed her burning cheeks. “Talk to me,” he murmured as he brushed her neck with soft kisses.
She swallowed and took a deep breath before spitting it out as quickly as she could. “Okay. I just meant that we’ve been having a lot of sex, and I could get pregnant.” She blew out the breath she’d been holding. “You said there was a device that could prevent it from happening.”
“First, thank you for sharing your concerns with me. I have come to know how hard it is for you to open up with others,” he rumbled from deep in his chest. He brushed his finger lightly down her little nose and across her lips before he continued.
“Second, I believe I said there is a device to keep a male’s semen in place for women who are concerned about fertility. That is the opposite of stopping pregnancy. Third, and most importantly, I am Caldorian. We do not need protection. We are immune to disease and when it comes to pregnancy, all Caldorian men can control their fertility. You would not get pregnant if it was not my wish that you do so.” He chuckled and couldn’t resist nipping her bottom lip as her mouth opened slightly in surprise. He deepened the kiss until they were both breathless. “You have a look of surprise and happy relief, which pleases me greatly, little one.”
“I am,” Sasha said. “I guess I’m a little confused, too,” she admitted bashfully. “I’m not a science person, but I get the basic concepts. I guess what I’m trying to understand now is why you would suggest a device that promotes pregnancy when you were already making sure it didn’t happen?”
Dagan looked at Sasha with confusion and more than a little unease. “I think we are both confused now.” Dagan pulled out and sat up, then pulled her, unresisting, into his lap. He repositioned the edges of the cloak around them, never taking his eyes off her. He waited until she made herself comfortable and began to play with her hair before he continued. She snuggled more deeply into his warmth and looked at him expectantly.
“I will try to explain as best as I can with this translator. Essentially, we have the ability to produce active or inactive sperm at will. When a Caldorian man wishes to impregnate his female, he can produce copious amounts of sperm that stay active deep inside her for weeks, not just days. It also carries an enzyme which stimulates ovulation in his female. However, we cannot force our seed to become active if it is not in our hearts to have a child. Tricking a Caldorian man into conceiving a baby that he doesn’t want is impossible. Convincing him that he doesn’t want one, when, in fact, he does, is also nearly impossible and likely to damage the relationship, if not end it entirely. It is the reason many Caldorian men and women insist on a claiming period prior to binding themselves together forever. If either party does not want children or is not ready for children, they do not enter into a claiming period together.”
Dagan could tell by Sasha’s stormy gaze that she was hearing this for the first time. He sighed deeply. He was going to have a serious discussion with Cam and Rachel when they got to the bonfire. His little human was clearly in over her head, but he was determined he could convince her they were still moving in the right direction. She belonged to him, and he was never giving her up.
Dagan lightly stroked his fingers from her shoulder to her wrist before linking their hands and trying again. “Caldorian men do not take kindly to any interference from their women in this area past their initial agreement to begin a claiming period. Once we reached an agreement, it became my responsibility to see to the rest. I understand that you are human. Please try to understand that I am, first and foremost, a Caldorian man. You are mine now. If you try to tell me that you do not wish for a family, it is too late. It was too late the moment I looked into your eyes. I want this to happen. Don’t deny what’s between us now after being the one to insist on a claiming period.”
Sasha jerked in surprise and began wriggling her way out of Dagan’s embrace, her face a mask of outrage and confusion. “Are you being serious right now? For your information, I didn’t know claiming was code for purposely getting knocked up!” Sasha yelled angrily. “I told you we only had a week! I would love to spend more time with you, but I certainly didn’t mean for you to actuallytryto get me pregnant! That’s totally backwards! Are you crazy!” Sasha squirmed out of Dagan’s lap and scrambled for her clothes. She needed to get away from his sexy maleness so she could think clearly for a minute.
Sasha pulled her jeans on as quickly as she could as she ranted under her breath, “How can you sit there and essentially tell me that men are in charge of how many children to have and when, like it’s no big deal? It’s not fair! It’s unacceptable! What about what I want? I get no say and just have to live with it?”
Pulling on the rest of her clothing made her feel more in control. She turned and addressed him directly, “I am an adult. I will take responsibility for my part in what’s been happening. I should have made sure I knew exactly what claiming really meant. I’m human, so I doubt the super-sperm will have the same effect on me. I think I would know if my cycle was thrown off. And since I don’t think I will get pregnant, I can even be generous and not blame it all on you. We can fix this! Date like normal people!”
“That is not what I meant,” Dagan growled with sudden agitation. “It is extremely rare for a man to disregard the desires of the woman he has claimed, and even more rare if their life forces have been bound together. I do not want there to be any more misunderstandings.”
