“Anything.” He pulls me in for a hug and purrs. The scent of Raven is masculine and strong, and I inhale a lungful of it. “When the baby is born, you will call for us. Both of us. And you will behave, because Dreikx is mine, and I’m his, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Father has made a decision.”

Raven holds me at arm’s length. “You don’t have to obey everything he says.”

I square my shoulders. “I am a Regha Omega. I am happy to obey my king and father. He would never harm me.”

“Dreikx better be fucking worthy of you.”

“I’m sure he is.”

Raven pecks the top of my head. “I’ll visit every day for the next decade.”

I laugh. “I’ll be in heat soon, so it’s best if you check in first.”

He purses his lips. “How in Serpent’s name will a Telean male perform with a Regha Omega?”

“Do you really want to know?”

He shakes his head. “Call me.” He taps the com unit in his ear. “Anytime.”

Chapter 9

Dreikx

My telepathy is my secret, and it shall remain a secret. Though if one understands brain development and allows oneself to reach full intellectual capacity, telepathy is within the reach of both human and Regha people alike. But developing those strengths takes hard work, and humans are content with taking their mental prowess as far as hypnosis.

While in captivity with Sidone, I had plenty of time to develop my telepathic skills. My first connection came from her. During a particularly difficult night, after they got done probing me with needles and cutting me with scalpels, they returned me into a cryocell and took Sidone. My mind, focused on compartmentalizing the pain in my body suddenly sensed someone else. I believe Sidone thought about my well-being, and, unknowingly so, directly reached out for me. I connected our minds. She was unaware of what she’d done mainly because of the physical injuries she sustained at the time. I caught those pains and synced our brains in a way that would help us both not feel. At the end of the night, I compartmentalized her memories and buried that night and many nights thereafter deep into her subconscious.

She is the only Regha Alpha whose brain I have invaded. I’m not proud of it. But I couldn’t help it either. Desperation was our daily meal, served with pain and hopelessness. I could’ve let us go mad in the cells. I chose to grow stronger. Sometimes I wonder if she knows and refuses to believe we were connected in such a way, or if she’s unaware of what I’ve discovered during our time in captivity. Namely how I’m able to isolate my senses, particularly those for pain, and how I can control my mind.

After I made contact with Sidone, practicing on the VP’s secret staff was my favorite pastime. It is no coincidence Loven didn’t break the prison doors, though he’d like to believe he did it. I sent a suggestive thought asking one of the staff minions to go to the bar, drink, and talk about his work. That was how the Horde found us.

Seer leaves the beach, and I call my crew to clean up his mess, namely neutralize the blood and leftover body parts washing up on the shore. He found a group of Swarm males docked in the marina, and my crew will investigate what’s left of their location, if anything.

I tap my com unit. “Raven, dear,” I say when the line opens, and he doesn’t answer. “Did you have a nice afternoon?” Inwardly, I snicker.

“Let’s keep all the chatter to the business sort.”

“I have questioned the Swarm male and will have something for Seer by the night’s end. Please keep the Warlords contained until I reach out. Also, prepare the Horde for a possible raid.”

“My males are always prepared, and I don’t command the Warlords.”

I roll my eyes and return to the pod, where I fire it up. “It is highly likely that Seer will leave the area with no notice to me or you or anyone, which will leave only Horde and Guardians in the city.”

“Have you scanned outside the perimeter for the Swarm army?”

“Of course I have.”

“And?”

“And what?”

“I need the fucking numbers.”

“One hundred thousand fifty-four males scattered across different locations.”

Raven snorts. “They’re gonna need ten times that number to come after the Horde.”

I shake my head. “That would be so if they were coming for the Horde. They’re not. Do note they’re armed with the latest technology and have updated laser beams, ones I presume will pierce armor more easily. And before you ask, yes, it is possible to develop weapons to pierce red armor. No one is invincible.”
