Ten days later, Tamey cooks for me, meaning she fries eggs and burns the toast and bacon. She serves me the yellow and black food on a plate and sits down, scrunching up her nose. She takes a bite of bacon and struggles to swallow it.

I push away my plate. “The packaged food isn’t to your liking?”

“I was gonna try to do something nice for you.”

“Thank you. Perhaps you would like to learn culinary arts from a cook?”

She takes another bite of her bacon, swallows, and nods. “I may need some training. Didn’t my aunt bond a cook?”

“She did, and we can ask him for assistance.” I take her hand in mine and kiss it. “I appreciate the gesture.” Checking the antique clock, I say, “It is noon, and I’ll be heading to work now, but before I go, I want to be certain that the heat is over.” I lean in.

Tamey laughs. “You’re hoping it’s not over.”

I lean back. “Untrue.”

“Lies. I feel them.”

I shake my head and turn on my com to the central log, where I receive my briefing. Ten days of briefs, each about twenty minutes long, await. Groaning, I grab an empty plate and deposit eggs on it, then eat, leaving the charred bacon for the house to clean. I listen. Seer has left the city and is advancing toward the north. People are fleeing ahead of the army, and I wonder if anyone bothered to set up humanitarian camps. I also wonder if Raven will impose Silence again seeing as laser gun tech can’t work during an energy pulse.

My crew still searches for Mike.

The Swarm males are lying low, not a single sighting in the area.

The fires have been put out.

A line of pods await upgrades because of a glitch.

Breakfast finished, Tamey moves around in the kitchen. She’s nude, her glorious marked body on display for me. I want to stay at home all day every day and fuck her. I’m hard and unable to restrain my dick inside its holding, though I sure hope this changes as I leave the house.

A direct com line from the ship interrupts my musings.

“Dreikx,” Howhoner, head of the medical unit and my personal doctor, says. “I’m happy to inform you I delivered a Regha Alpha with armor intact and have logged the entire labor. It was an experience unlike any other, and I can’t wait for you to see the technique.”

“Excellent. All went well?”

Tamey stands, looking at me expectantly. “You’re excited,” she whispers, eyes wide. “What is it?”

“The heir was born.”

Her squeal overrides Howhoner’s words, and she vaults up the stairs.

“Excuse me, what was that?” I ask the doctor.

Howhoner sighs. “Which that?”

“All the thats.”

“You’re unfocused and useless.”

“Indeed.”

“But emotionally and physically satisfied?”

“Yes.”

“Will we see you anytime soon?”
