“Now you listen to me. This is Tabitha Park, Arkin’s Omega, and I’m fucking telling you to shut the damn power down. Now!”
“Arkin’s Omega?”
“Shut it down!”
“Arkin initiates the orders.”
“Arkin is going to die if you don’t shut it down. There are men here with laser guns.”
“Oh my God.”
“Yes. Please, please stop arguing with me.”
“Mike,” Christy shouts. “Power down, power down.”
I wait. “Nothing is happening.”
“He won’t do it.”
“If Arkin dies, I will make sure you grace a pole at my house. I will tell everyone I called!”
Clickand the line cuts off.
Arkin’s arms move under the pile of black uniforms. A man’s hand throws something. I zoom in. It’s Arkin’s cracked body plate. I cover my mouth and sob. Nobody listens to an Omega. Nobody ever listens to me. Minutes pass. The laser guns never stop firing. The lights dance over the green grass. They’re injuring their own people and don’t seem to care. They want Arkin dead.
And then, the miracle happens. All the lights go out. I crumple to the floor and pray. It could’ve been five minutes or five seconds later, I can’t tell, when the power comes back on. I look up and stare at the screen, the scene before me one I’ll never forget.
The Horde in their signature kilts stand lined up against the fence. At the gate, the prince of Regha dismounts his hound, leaving what I presume is his human Omega’s side. From atop her hound, she stares at the horror that is my yard.
Male bodies cover it, not a single spot of green grass to be seen.
One green body doesn’t move.
Chapter 18
Tabby
Like a zombie, I walk outside, stumbling over dead bodies to reach Arkin. He’s covered in blood. With multiple lacerations and burns, he’s barely recognizable. My hands shake, and I want to touch him, but I don’t know where to touch him. “Oh no.” I sit there and cry, my fist on his chest. I’m thumping it as if it would make his heart work.
A male in a kilt appears next to me.
I pay him no mind.
He crouches. I feel his eyes on me, and I wipe my face. It’s an older Alpha with a scar over one eye. He’s got an open bag of potato chips and offers it to me. “Chips?”
I shake my head.
“What in Serpent’s name are you doing?” he asks.
Rage rises and takes hold of me. I slap his damn bag of chips, and it flies away.
He looks at me as if I’ve killed his firstborn.
“Why didn’t you shut the power off when I called? Hm? I asked you to. I begged. I’m done with people treating me like I don’t exist! Fuck you.” I point at him, past him, and turn and point at the Regha prince standing at my gates. “Fuck you too. Get off my property.”
I fall on Arkin’s body and cry some more.
The male next to me scratches his head. “This is my son.”
