“My lawyer.”
“Good girl.” Terror kisses the top of my head. “Is he gonna get you Betaren?”
“No.” I giggle. “You’re here. Nobody will get me anything.”
“And if I left?”
“Oh yes, definitely.”
“Thank you, Omega.”
“Welcome.”
“You can sleep now.”
And so I do.
Chapter 6
Arkin
The Omega sleeps like a kitten while I pace her bedroom floor, not believing my fucking ears. “What do you mean you can’tfindthe phone call?” I hiss.
“I mean I can’t trace a phone call that left no trace,” Dreikx says, boredom infusing his tone.
I picture myself shaking him. “How could it leave no trace?”
“I don’t know yet.”
“Yet?”
“Yet. I will find out how the phone left no trace, and when I do, I will attempt to secure a recording. Will that do, Collector?”
“That won’t do.”
Dreikx sighs. “How is the poor thing?”
“Sleeping.”
“I am curious. Indulge me?” I grunt, and he continues. “If I were in her place, I’d tell you nothing, and she told you who she spoke with. A bribe?”
“No.”
“Then how?”
I purred until she fell into a trance, and I interrogated her. Naturally. It is one of my gifts, and I use it. “I have ways.”
Dreikx is quiet for a moment. “How long will you service her?”
“For however long is necessary. Why?”
“At this time, I would like to point out that bonding her would be a very bad idea. The prince isn’t here, and you’re running the city, the country, and the beyond. You cannot afford distractions or even a few days of sexual reprieve. I recommend leaving the house. She is well guarded and has no pills.”
“Search for Travis Gunnman. Leave the Omega to me.”
“It would be best if the dealer came and delivered. Upon his delivery, we would follow him quietly and monitor him for several days before jumping into action. This thing called patience would lead us to the next guy and the next guy, all the way to the top.”
“I’m not leaving until her heat is over.”
