“Thank fuck,” he says. “Glad to have the boys back together.”

“Me too.” The past couple of weeks have felt so out of control. Relief washes over me at the thought that the air is finally clear around everyone who means the most to me. I take a swig of my coffee and exhale.

“What are y’all doing today?” Logan asks. “Poppy’s shopping with her sister.”

“I was planning to play pickleball with Enzo,” Tanner says. “Y’all want to make it a doubles game? I think Donovan is busy, so it’d be the four of us.”

“I’m in,” I say. “Probably should kick Logan’s ass for being such a dick to me.”

“Ha!” Logan says. “I said I was sorry. I didn’t say I’d let you win.”

CHAPTER 20: “THAT’S WHY THEY CALL IT A JUNGLE, SWEETHEART.”

LACEY

Sunday

Jace: How are you doing?

Pixie: I still feel completely awful. I’m so sorry that I did that to you. You?

Jace: I actually feel good about it all. I’m really glad we talked.

Pixie: Me too.

Pixie: How was your day?

Jace: Good. Logan and I cleared the air and then we played pickleball with Tanner and Enzo.

Pixie: That sounds like fun. Did you win?

Jace: Ha! No way. Logan and Tanner are too good. What did you do today?

Pixie: I went shopping with Poppy and her sister.

Jace: I haven’t seen Olive in years. How is she?

Pixie: Fine, same as she was when we were younger. She’s married and has a cat named Karma that she’s obsessed with.

Jace: Karma?

Pixie: Yeah, like the Taylor Swift song.

Jace: I’ll take your word for it. Is it safe to assume she’s still your favorite artist?

Pixie: Hard yes! You still listening to nineties country?

Jace: Yeah, it reminds me of Mom.

Tuesday

Jace: What’s your favorite movie?

Pixie: Why?

Jace: I told you we had a lot of catching up to do.

Pixie: It’s still Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion. No movie will ever compare.
