“Are you bringing her back here or are you taking her back to her place?”

I laugh out loud. “There you are. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, T. I’m gonna go get ready.”

“Suit yourself, but you say the word and I will find a different place to sleep tonight. Y’all want this apartment, it’s yours.”

S.H.I.E.L.D.

Tanner: Logan if I give you the signal it means you and Poppy need to go to your place because Jacks is going to be taking Lacey back to her place

Logan: Signal?

Jacks: Don’t listen to him.

Donovan: Sorry we’re missing tonight.

Logan: No signal necessary. Poppy and I already decided we would be staying at my apartment tonight. The girls’ apartment is all yours Jacks.

Tanner: So we don’t need to come up with a signal

Jacks: Please don’t.

CHAPTER 48: SPACE

JACE

The Local is packed when we walk in. Tanner and I push our way through a crowd of people and that’s when I see Lacey sitting at a table with Poppy and Logan. She stands and waves in our direction.

Lacey’s hair is in loose curls that fall around her face, and she’s wearing a short, black dress. The fabric is ribbed, and the bottom hits her right at her upper thigh. It hugs every one of her curves, and it takes all of my willpower to not let my mind slip to thinking about everything I want to do to her in that dress. The locket is still around her neck and is layered with a few other chains. She’s wearing white sneakers.

She looks effortlessly beautiful and so fucking sexy. I approach the table and she immediately throws her arms around me, wrapping me in a hug.

“Hey, J,” she says into my ear.

“Hey, pixie. You look gorgeous.” I kiss her cheek, and she pulls away.

Her cheeks turn a soft shade of pink, and our eyes meet. The air feels tight with tension. I don’t know where tonight will lead, but I know I’ll follow her wherever she goes.

“So, whatcha drinking? A gin and tonic?” I ask.

“We hadn’t ordered yet,” Logan cuts in. “We were waiting for everyone to get here.”

“Actually, I’m kinda feeling a ranch water with tajin on the rim.” Lacey slides back into the booth. “Wren and Gray should be here soon, so you can probably grab them the same thing.”

“Tequila?” Poppy glances in Lacey’s direction with a quirked eyebrow.

“You got it,” I say. Logan, Tanner, and I make our way to the bar and order the drinks.

When we return, all four girls are sitting around the table and I slide in across from Lacey. Her foot brushes up against mine, and I swallow hard. Sitting this close to her tonight is going to be torture. I hand her the glass bottle and she takes a long sip. Her tongue jets out of her mouth and licks the tajin off the neck of the bottle in a long, languid stroke and my mind immediately imagines her on her knees in front of me. I take a long sip of my beer, clenching my teeth.

She does it again, but this time her eyes meet mine.Fuck, is she torturing me on purpose?I sit up a little straighter and adjust in the booth. I swear she lets out a little snicker before taking another long sip of her drink.

“Who’s Tanner talking to?” Poppy asks, looking over towards the bar. Tanner is standing there sipping his beer and talking to an older man I’ve never seen before. He shakes the man’s hand and then begins to walk back towards our table.

“Geez, didn’t your parents teach y’all not to stare,” he says.

“What was that about, T?” Logan asks.

“Anyone up for a friendly game of ping pong?” He avoids the question and nods toward the tables in the corner of the bar.
