“Get the hell out of here. Really?”

I nod my head and keep my eyes locked on my man. “So, where is David?” I ask. She gestures across the room. He is standing there talking to Tanner, Donovan, and Enzo.

Logan returns, handing Olive her wine and me my French 75 before sitting on the barstool beside me. “I can’t believe Lacey allowed Tanner to be invited,” I say.

“Oh, she put up a fight, but she finally caved,” he laughs.

“Is there a story there I want to hear about?” Olive asks, taking a sip of her drink. I shake my head and look at Logan, who agrees.

“Well, if you two aren’t going to spill the tea, maybe Lacey will.” She offers us both a smile before walking off to locate my best friend.

“Our parents seem to be hitting it off.” He tips his glass of water in the direction of my parents and his mom.

“I know. I thought dinner went well. You, Dad, and David seemed to get along.” He pulls me between his legs, kissing me like we are the only people there.

“Your family is great. Thanks again for inviting my mom to dinner. It meant a lot to her and to me.”

“It’s been a big day for us,” I say.

“Between you and me this is just the first part of the surprise. I got a whole evening planned for the two of us after this is over.” He leans forward, lowers his voice, and brings his mouth to my ear so only I can hear him. “Tonight is all about you. I plan on driving you home, getting you naked, and then?—”

My cheeks heat and I swat his chest. “My parents are here. Stop making me blush. You and I both know we can’t bail early. It’s my party,” I pout.

“We can do whatever you want.”

“What did I do to deserve you?”

His phone vibrates, and he pulls it out. “Shit,” he says, staring at his phone.

“It’s not your dad, is it?”

“Oh no, it’s just Jacks. Looks like he’s back early and is wondering where we are.” His eyes find Tanner across the room. “Man, I feel bad. I didn’t know he was going to be back today.”

“You should tell him to come meet us here.”

“You sure?”

“Of course, I can’t wait to meet him, and I’m sure he is dying to meet the girl that won your heart.”

He lets out a little laugh and runs his hand through his hair. He hesitates for a long moment before answering. “Don’t be mad, but I haven’t gotten the chance to tell him about us.” I raise an eyebrow and cross my arms across my chest.

“Isn’t he one of your best friends? How does he not know about me?”

“Trust me, if I could have told him about you, I would have, but he’s always working in some remote location and is hard to reach. I know he’ll love you, though. Hard not to.” He plants a kiss on my forehead. “You sure it’s okay if he comes?”

I nod, and he fumbles with his phone, responding to Jacks.

LOGAN

Tonight could not be going better.Poppy has been glowing all night as she works the room chatting with everyone. She looks beautiful and more relaxed than she has been in weeks. Plus, she loves me.She fucking loves me.I have to be the luckiest guy in the world, and there is no way anyone could convince me otherwise.

“So, Poppy, when do you start your new job?” Tanner asks.

“Hopefully in a few weeks, I’m waiting for my state license to be approved and then I’m good to go.” The smile on her face is contagious and I’m so proud of my girl for getting her dream job.

“Shame, you’ll have to put up with this one,” Tanner raises his glass toward Lacey, but Lacey doesn’t notice because her eyes are locked on something behind us. Herglass of champagne slips from her hands and explodes on the floor.

“Jesus, Lacey? Are you okay?” Poppy steps towards her, but nothing breaks Lacey’s stare. “What’s going on?” Poppy asks as she spins around to see what or who has her friend’s attention. Her face immediately falls. Her eyes are wide, just like Lacey’s. They both look like they’ve seen a ghost.
