I hear him freeze and when he turns around his eyes find mine instantly.

“Sorry, I shouldn’t have asked that,” I say, immediately regretting my question because it doesn’t feel like a question you ask someone who is just your friend.

“Don’t apologize. I want to answer it.”

I set down the can I’m holding and turn my body completely around to hear his answer. Twirling a piece of hair around my finger, I allow my gaze to settle on his.

“It is a hard question though because there are so many things I like about you. I like that you always seem to be drinking coffee no matter the time of day. I like that when you’re nervous you play with your hair. I like how your nose scrunches up when you’re annoyed. I like how insanely smart you are.”

He stands and starts to walk towards where I am sitting on the floor. I stop moving and time feels suspended as he continues to list things.“I like the way my name sounds on your lips. I like that you took a break from studying to help the kids here. I like that I always have fun when I’m with you. I like you, chatterbox, and I can’t just pinpoint one thing because everything about you is quickly becoming my favorite.”

He stops moving and kneels down to meet me. He moves a piece of fallen hair behind my ear.

“Logan…” I start to say something, but my brain is still trying to process everything he just said.

“It’s okay. I know what we are and I’m okay with it, but you asked me the question and I promised you the truth. And the truth is I like you.”

I offer him a smile, not really sure what to say. My stomach flutters and for a moment I allow myself to wish our circumstances were different.

“Truth or dare?” he asks.

“Dare,” I answer because I’m scared what truths I may admit if I continue to pick the alternative.

Logan takes a step back and surveys the room. He quickly strides over to the donation pile and grabs three bags of ramen noodles. “I dare you to juggle these.”

I shake my head and giggle. “How did you know my secret talent?”

His eyebrow quirks over his glasses and he throws me all three bags. I proceed to juggle them perfectly.

“Where did you learn to do that?” he asks completely shocked.

“Clown college,” I tease.

“Seriously?”

I throw one of the packs in his direction and he catches it. “No, I learned for the second grade talent show and I guess it’s like riding a bike. I’ve never forgotten how to do it. Here you try.” I throw the other two bags back.

He attempts a couple times and even with me attempting to teach him he fails miserably. We burst out laughing and all three bags hit the ground.

We continue to play, but both only choose silly dares as we work our way through the pile of cans and boxes.

Once we finish, we collect our belongings and head to exit. Before he swings open the door, Logan shuts off the light, and I feel him pull me in close.

“You think we have time for one more dare?” he asks.

“Okay, but remember you gotta keep it PG. You’re going to get us caught.” My heartrate quickens and I can feel his breath tickle my ear.

He whispers, “I dare you to take me back to your apartment and let me make you come first on my fingers, then on my tongue, and then on my?—”

I feel my cheeks heat and I step away before he can finish his sentence.

“Deal, but you need to stop it. Let’s go,” I giggle.

CHAPTER 42: THE BATHROOM

POPPY

We walk into my bathroom. Logan turns on the shower and then walks back to me, and we slowly undress each other. He places a line of gentle kisses down my neck instantly making me wet, and when our lips find each other, his hands are all over me, grabbing my ass and pulling me towards him.
