“It’s that simple?”

“Yes, it is. Is that how she makes you feel?”

I chuckle. “I do not know how to explain how Mia makes me feel.”

“Then, that’s love, Ian.”

I think I’ve always known it’s love, but hearing my mother tell me… cements it into my soul. I do love Mia.

“Why don’t you two meet us at the club for breakfast in the morning? I’d love to see you both.” Mom asks me.

I think about my schedule and it’s pretty opened, “Sure. I’ll check with Mia, but I think we can make that happen.”

My mother sounds happy, “Great. Then I’ll see you around eight?”

“Sounds good, mom.” I hang up and text Mia letting her know about our breakfast date with my parents.

Chapter 37

Mia

“I’m so glad you could come to breakfast with us, this morning.” Mr. Gallo, Ian’s father, says to me as we finish up a delicious meal at Ian’s club.

“Me, too.” I tell both his parents honestly.

“We both are.” Ian says as he takes my hand.

The restaurant is packed with everybody who’s anybody in my new town. I hate to admit it, but I’m getting used to having my picture taken, too, because it’s been done about a thousand times since we sat down.

“I’m going to the ladies’ room. I’ll be right back.” I stand just as Mrs. Gallo does as well.

“I’ll go with you, dear.”

“Always in groups. I’ll never understand you gals.” Mr. Gallo laughs.

Mrs. Gallo kisses him on the cheek, “You’re not supposed to, darling.”

We go into the bathroom and handle our business and meet back at the sink. “You look happy, Mia. Are you?”

I nod, “Yes, I am.”

“My son looks happy, too, and it’s been a long time since he has been. You two are good for each other.”

I open the door for her and follow her out. “Thank you. I think so, too.”

“Cynthia!” A lady calls over to her waving her arms frantically.

“Will you excuse me? I need to talk to her about the engagement party.” She winks at me.

I smile, “Of course. I’ll head back to the table.”

I round the corner into the main dining room when I’m approached from behind. “What is thesecretarydoing in a members-only area? Trash needs to stay with trash.” Mackenzie sneers at me and I can feel her hatred wash over me as I turn to face her.

“I’m with Ian and his family.” Why do I feel a need to justify myself to her?

“You mean yourfakefiancé?”

What?! How does she know?
