When he arrives twenty minutes later, I’m buzzing with excitement. Or maybe that’s the alcohol.
No, I amend. It’s him.
As soon as I fling the door open, Leo grins at me from the other side. He looks good in his torn jeans and sweatshirt. I want him tolean into me, to pull me into a kiss, but instead he just winks at me and then holds out his fist for me to bump.
I stare down at his hand until he just shrugs and moves into the kitchen.
“Oh hey! I love me a margarita!” he croons.
I watch as Selena pulls him into a hug and then pours him a large glass of alcohol.
“I love them too! Love your face, pretty boy.”
He preens at that and then takes the margarita and takes a swig. “Dang, girl! You know how to pour.”
“Arms made of lead, bitch!”
Leo grins and I find myself sitting at the island counter, watching the two of them chat like old friends. Like they’ve known each other for years.
I’m chopped liver at this point. And he came over to see me. Me, not her.
I’m just a fly on the wall at this point.
Irrational jealously pulses through me as they drink and then make their way around my house, Selena showing him all the rooms, and probably even inside my cabinets, before leading him to the couch and sinking onto it. The two of them talk animatedly about the murder doc paused on the screen and as they do, I lower myself next to Leo who is facing away from me. Selena meets my grouchy stare over his shoulder and grins. She knows what’s going through my head right now and she’s doing nothing to make me less jealous.
But then she plays the show and Leo leans back, his shoulder hitting mine and I fist my hand in my lap to keep myself from reaching out and touching him. It’s hard though. I want him to sink into me, the same way he did at Jack’s apartment, but he’s sipping on his margarita instead and chatting with Selena, the two of them making far too many comments during the entire show to pay any attention to me.
I’m glad they’re bonding, but fuck, I want his eyes on me.
When the show finally ends, my sister turns the TV off and faces Leo.
“I like you. I approve.”
Leo blushes and sets his glass on the coffee table. “Approve of what?”
“You and my brother being together.”
Leo peers over at me and then shakes his head. “I don’t—I don’t know what you mean.”
Selena snorts. “You don’t need to pretend. He’s told me all about you. You’re more than just friends and I, for one, am thrilled.”
Leo blinks at me and then grins. “Did he? How exciting.”
“He did,” she replies and I huff a small laugh.
“I didn’t know if he’d want me to say anything.”
“Oh, Heath has the biggest mouth. He blathered it all to me. This is why I brought tequila. It’s a real show stopper.”
I glower at her, but it goes unnoticed.
“Maybe you should leave now, Selena. The doc is over.”
She shakes her head and then seems to sink farther into the couch. “Thought I’d spend the night.”
Leo chuckles at that and then glances over at me.
“You’re not staying. You’re getting a car and going home.”
