Aziz lay closest, one muscular arm draped above his head as he snored softly. Even in sleep, his chiseled features radiated a dangerous sensuality that made my pulse quicken. On my other side, Ian was curled toward me almost protectively, his brown eyes veiled by long lashes and a lock of dark hair falling across his brow. At my feet, Levi stretched out like a contented lion, all tawny skin and coiled strength even in repose.
For a fleeting moment, an unfamiliar sense of contentment washed over me at the sight of the three powerful demons sprawled around me. It felt almost...right.
But then the searing memories of what they had done to me before today crashed in, evaporating any hint of comfort and igniting a smoldering anger deep within. How dare they think they could just sleep beside me like this after everything?
In one swift motion, I pulled my legs underneath me and shoved Aziz forcefully off the bed. He landed on the floor with a resounding thud, groaning as he hit the plush carpet. Before Ian could react, I rolled toward him and pushed with all my strength, sending him tumbling off the other side.
At the foot of the bed, Levi startled awake and scrambled to his feet, holding his hands up defensively.
“What the fuck?” he blurted out, his voice rough with sleep.
Aziz popped up from the floor, rubbing his head. “What was that for?
I glared at him, at his audacity. “For fucking my mouth with my blood all over your dick.”
Aziz’s eyes gleamed. “Oh yeah. Totally worth it.”
“What the fuck?” Levi blurted out as he scrambled away from me to the end of the bed, hands raised defensively.
I didn’t respond, still fuming with rage as I yanked open the bedside drawer, my hand searching for anything to use as a weapon. To my surprise, my fingers closed around the cool metal of a revolver.
My fury boiled over. Without hesitation, I raised the revolver, aimed it at Aziz’s muscular chest, and pulled the trigger. The gunshot cracked through the room, making Levi and Ian jump.
Aziz collapsed back dramatically with a groan. Ian burst out laughing.
Levi took another step back, hands still raised. “Don’t shoot. It hurts.”
I turned the gun on Ian next, my voice cold as ice. “You took my virginity.” Then I swung it over to Levi. “And you took my ass.”
Before I could fire again, Aziz propped himself up on his elbows, one hand rubbing the bullet wound that was already starting to heal. “Did you really think that was going to kill me?”
I tossed my head. “No. You’re a demon, duh. I just hoped it hurt.”
I lowered the revolver, strode around the bed to where Ian was sprawled on the floor, and aimed the barrel squarely at his crotch. “This is for everything else.”
Ian’s laughter cut off abruptly as I squeezed the trigger. The shot rang out and he let out an agonized groan, doubling over and cupping himself as he hit the floor again.
I swung around, gun pointing at Levi’s blonde head, but he vanished in a shimmer of dark energy before I could shoot.
Keeping the weapon in hand, I stormed into the walk-in closet, anger fueling each step. It didn’t surprise me that the clothes inside were close to my size—my brief meeting with the woman who lived here before showed me she was built similarly.
I yanked on a pair of fitted dark jeans and a simple black top, mind still roiling with rage and defiance. Rummaging through drawers, I found a sleek leather holster. I also spotted an array of glittering jewelry, including some large sparkling diamonds. For a second, I was tempted by their brilliance. My hand reached out, fingers brushing a particularly dazzling ring.
But I pulled back, shaking my head. I wasn’t that far gone. Then I glanced at the gun in my other hand and laughed humorlessly.Oh, I’m willing to shoot someone but not steal a diamond? I’m so far gone. The fact that I had already stolen one diamond was not lost on me. But that ring was with Father Hudson now. He’d do the right thing with it.
I considered the ring again for a long moment. But no, I didn’t know the people who owned it. I had no reason to take from them. Very good reasons to shoot the demons, but not to steal this.
Instead, I strapped the holster around my hips, slid the revolver into it, and adjusted the rig until it was comfortable and secure. The weapon’s weight was empowering, a tangible reminder that I wasn’t defenseless anymore.
I turned and caught my reflection in the full-length mirror. I looked different, stronger, more dangerous. This was who I needed to be now.
The three demons had taken so much from me, but I was starting to realize I had the power to take it back. I just had to convince them I was powerless. Then I could take it all back. I would have to play this exactly right.
Schooling my features into sweet anticipation, I left the closet, ready to play the role of the perfect, besotted woman.
