Dozer
Romeo leaned over the table and sewed the treasurer patch onto his cut. His smile said everything. He was fucking proud. Romeo was now a board member. I slipped out of the room and made my way into the chapel.
Levi, Jazzy, Pike, and Brenna sat around a table. I groaned. It would have to be Pike to fall for a Heller whore. She sat on his lap and twirled her fingers in the fringe of hair at his neck.
Jazzy leaned over the table. “Hana and I are going ax throwing tomorrow morning. It’s supposed to be entertainment, but I’m thinking of it as extreme hand-to-hand combat training. Do you want to go?” she asked Levi.
A blush crept into Levi’s cheeks. “I can’t.”
Her gaze met mine, then quickly averted to stare across the room to the threshold leading to where the board held church.
“I have a paper due next week.”
Jazzy paused with her beer halfway to her lips. “You’re still going to Chrome with us.”
“We’ll be there,” Pike said with hands full of Brenna’s hips and ass. He winced every time Brenna shifted on his lap.
“Might want to give it a couple more weeks before you hit the town,” I said to him.
Romeo poured out of church with Blade, Sully, Rogue, and the other board members. My dad should be with him. But since he was still locked up, I should be scheduling another trip to the country club to see him. Seeing him meant seeing my mom, and I wasn’t in a headspace to pretend she wasn’t a piece of shit wife.
“Romeo,” the prospect behind the altar called. “They’re saying you’re buying drinks tonight.”
“First round,” he hollered, and a cheer went up.
“President, what are you having?”
Blade held his bike keys in his hand. “Celebrate another night? I need to pick Hana up from Inked Out.”
“Are you coming back?” Jazzy asked. “And are you going to trust me with her tomorrow? Or do you have to drive us?”
“I’m not coming back tonight, and I can’t go tomorrow. I have some shit to take care of with Rogue.”
The mention of Rogue had her gaze darting around the room. Jazzy had the equivalent of a hard-on for the hardass.
“I’m not staying either. We have a date tonight.” Romeo rested a hand on my shoulder.
“With each other?” Jazzy pursed her lips.
“With Pip,” Romeo said.
A shot of whiskey didn’t cause the heat in my gut the way Romeo’s words did.
Blade chuckled, his gaze shifting from Romeo to me. “Fuck. Brave girl.”
“I’m going home.” Levi slid off her stool. She didn’t spare a glance at me or Romeo as she sidled around us.
“Levi?”
She glanced over her shoulder at Romeo.
“Text me when you get home,” he said.
She nodded and walked away.
“I’ll walk you out.” Blade jogged to catch up with her.
Romeo pulled his motorcycle keys from his pocket. “I’m going to Pippa’s. Are you coming with me?”
