The phone call ended, and she tapped the button on her steering wheel to end the call. She rotated her head on her shoulders. He just gave off a weird vibe, but like Margo said yesterday, people who have had a bad past may be reluctant to offer friendship or be congenial. He certainly wasn't trying hard to be congenial, that was a fact.
She parked her car at the back of her office building. She glanced all around to make sure no one was hanging around, and as soon as she felt sure no one was around, she strode in the back door.
Addison was sitting at her desk with a smile on her face. "Hi, Carley. Police Chief Tray Fielding called you a while ago. He'd like you to give him a call right away, please."
Carley nodded. "Okay, thanks."
Addison cocked her head. "Is everything okay?"
Carley stopped progress to her office and turned. She moved to stand before Addison. She swallowed a lump in her throat and shrugged. "So, I found a scratched-up old medallion between the carpeting and the wall at the condo that Mason just bought. Some guy left a note on my windshield saying I had somethingthat belonged to him. I then saw him watching me pull out of my parking spot in back yesterday. I told Jace about it and he asked for the note and medallion. He looked at his security cameras and found the man putting the note on my windshield at the Sandbar. He took it to Chief Fielding yesterday, so that's probably what the chief wants to talk to me about."
"Well, that’s creepy. If he was standing out back, how about we make sure the back door is locked at all times?" she asked.
"I'm totally fine with that. I'll go check it right now." Carley went to the back door and made sure it was locked. She came back to Addison's desk.
Addison said "Layton Terry just called and was looking for you. I gave him your cell phone number. He said it was important that he speak with you."
Just the mention of his name made a knot form in Carley’s throat. "Yes, he called me. He wants to see the condo again tonight but not until eight o'clock. I don't really care to meet him that late."
"I don't blame you, he's weird."
"Well, he certainly is different, I'll say that, and he's not very friendly. Yesterday I found what looks like a thumb drive in the dirt the landscapers were digging up around the building. He became increasingly weird about seeing it. I told him I would give it to Quinn. It certainly wasn't his, and it wasn't mine, but he kept insisting he see it. I'm grateful Mason was there. He stepped between us and told the man it wasn't anything for him to worry about."
Addison kind of shivered "Well, that's creepy too. Maybe we should lock the front door also."
Carley laughed. "How will customers come in?"
"Well, it's not like we have a drove of walk-in customers. I'm right here. I can unlock the door for anyone who comes up."
Carley nodded "You know that's not a bad idea, why don't you go ahead and do that. I'm gonna go check my voicemail and emails and call Chief Fielding."

Mason felt his phone buzz in his pocket and pulled it out to see who texted. He grinned when he saw Carley's name. He'd been thinking about her nonstop today. They'd had a hot night last night. Sex. Shower. They ordered food to be delivered and watched a movie. Afterwards, they had sex again, and she slept over. He basically told her she had to stay over since he didn't want her out there alone in her house at night. Initially, he'd worried about his nightmares, but she told him if it was bad, she'd sleep on the couch. He relaxed after that. He only had one nightmare, and it wasn't a bad one.
This morning, she woke him up, sitting on top of him. His cock roared to life, and the instant she felt it, she slid herself on him. Best way to wake up…ever.
He read her text.
"Hey, Layton Terry wants to see the condo at eight tonight. He insisted on that time. Do you think you'll be off to join me?"
"I'll make sure. Don't go in without me there."
"Okay. See you later."
"Looking forward to it."
She sent a smiling face and replied.
"I've been thinking about you all day."
His heart swelled and his mind went back to this morning. And suddenly he couldn't wait to see her again. Actually, it wasn't sudden at all. He tapped out,
"I've been thinking about you too."
She sent another smiley face. He waited in case she was going to send something more. She didn't so he pocketed his phone and continued working.
He called a cleaning company to go into his old apartment and clean it up. Then he called his now former landlord and told him a cleaning company was coming in tomorrow and he should try to rent out his apartment. He was obligated to a sixty-day notice and he acknowledged that. He'd pay the two months’ rent if he had to, but he also knew it would rent quickly. He'd likely not have to pay anything at all, so would let the chips fall where they may.
