Without interrupting, Ox waited until I was done. “I’m going to kill that fucker,” he spoke, his tone terrifying even for one so ready to commit murder.

Afraid and confused, I asked, “Which one?”

Ox’s hot gaze swung in my direction. “Do I have to pick just one?”

That actually made me laugh. “I guess not.”

“Good, because I’m currently exploring my options.” Taking a left turn, Ox hopped onto the road that led to the highway. I found myself longing for the safety of the cabin, our secret sanctuary, and sighed.

“What am I going to do, Ox? I can’t keep living like this. You can’t keep living like this. You have a life and a Club to get back to. You can’t babysit me forever as though it’s your full time job. It’s not fair,” I said, thoroughly forlorn sounding.

“You think that’s what I’m doing with you, Babe?” Ox asked then. “Babysitting you?”

I didn’t mean to insult him or what had been growing between us. But let’s face it, I’d been his responsibility far before I’d been anything else in his life.

“I don’t want you to resent me,” I explained. “And if this issue with Ghost doesn’t get resolved, I’m afraid that’s what will happen between us. I’ll be a burden. One that you’ll want to escape the first chance you get.”

Ox cut the wheel and pulled over on the side of the road. “Kayla, look at me.” When I did, he caught my chin and tilted my gaze upward into his. “I know we haven’t talked about us since we’ve hooked up. But I want you to know, this is exactly what I want. I never expected this to happen, but I’m fucking grateful that it did. Do you hear me?”

Tears filled my eyes and threatened to spill over the rims. “Yeah, I hear you.”

“Good. Because no matter how tough things get, I want you to know I’m going to be there for you. And I’ll never see you as a “burden”. It’s my privilege to keep you safe and out of harm’s way. You’re my girl, Kayla.” Stroking my cheek, he trailed his thumb along my bottom lip. “And I’m not about to let anyone hurt you.”

Leaning into his touch, I nodded. “Okay,” I said, giving him a slow, burning kiss before he pulled back onto the road.

Ox’s warmthgreeted me when I woke up that next morning. The weight of his muscular arm was draped over me, providing a sense of comfort and safety that I hadn’t felt in some time.

Slipping out of bed, I ran to the bathroom and then the kitchen to set up the coffee. Gathering some items from the fridge, I concocted a simple breakfast of eggs, toast, and bacon.

“That’s the best smell in the world to wake up to,” Ox said, sniffing the air as the bacon sizzled and popped on the stove.

I laughed, dishing up some eggs, buttered toast, and some already cooked bacon onto his plate. “I’m glad you’re hungry. I thought you might like something to eat,” I teased, knowing how the man was always ravenous. “Coffee?”

Ox nodded, running a hand through his sleep mussed hair. He looked so freaking hot, all rumpled and sleepy eyed. I doubted I ever looked that good rolling out of bed. Cutting the heat on the bacon, I placed the aromatic slices onto a paper towel to soak up the remaining grease.

Making a plate for myself, I set it down and Ox reached for my wrist. Dragging me onto his lap, he ravaged my mouth. Turning me on in an instant, and making me forget all about the delicious meal in front of me now that my mind was on something far more alluring than mere food.

When he finally let go, I felt shaky and disoriented. “Thanks for breakfast, Babe.”

I’d never been so appreciated for something so small before, and it felt great. Especially sitting in this giant man’s lap, ready and willing to take anything he gave me.

I was somewhat disappointed when he placed me back in my seat, but my first bite dispelled my sadness. We chatted and enjoyed our leisurely breakfast, with Ox having a second and a third helping before he was full.

After breakfast, I started to clear the dishes. “Are we heading to Nevada today?” I loved it here at the cabin and hated the thought of leaving our little bubble of safety and security behind.

Ox stood and brought his dirty dish over to the sink where I was already washing mine. “Yeah. I’d love to stay here longer with you, but it’s time my Club and I tackle this Ghost situation together.”

I didn’t know what that entailed exactly, and I didn’t really want to. As long as Ghost left me alone, I was happy. “Okay. I’ll pack my stuff up after I finish doing these dishes.”

Ox stood behind me, running his big, strong hands up my arms. When they got to my shoulders, he began to knead them with the perfect amount of pressure and gentleness and I groaned.

“You keep doing that and I’m going to break a dish and piss off the guy that owns this place,” I jested, my voice sounding drugged with pleasure.

Sweeping the hair off my shoulders, Ox dipped his mouth and placed warm, slow kisses along the column of my neck. “Fuck him. Break as many as you want. I’ll buy new ones.”

The more Ox explored my body, the wetter I got. The delicate nub between my legs stirred to life, demanding he move his hands a hell of a lot lower and pet me there, too. Like he could read my mind, Ox ran his fingers along my breasts, gave them a firm squeeze, then continued to blaze a lusty path toward the waistband of my sleep shorts.

Delving inside, he ran a thick, calloused digit in between my weeping pussy lips. “Ummm,” he hummed, using pressure on his fingertips to force inside the tight ring of muscle. “So fucking wet for me already. Babe, do you want me to lick and fuck this tight little cunt of yours right now?”
