Mr. Pennington left without another word. I stared at Robbie, unclear on exactly what happened here. He just sat there with a huge grin and a light in his eyes I hadn’t seen before. “What just happened?”
“You’re now the CEO, and I’m on the board.” He slid his hand around my neck and kissed me. It was a happy, celebratory kiss that left me even more confused. He pulled back, still smiling. “Have dinner with me tonight. Your place or mine?”
“Um, okay.” I smiled not knowing what else to do right now. “My place, I guess.”
“Perfect.” He pulled me up off the sofa and kissed me again. “I’ll bring the food. Can you provide the wine?”
“Okay.” My mind was racing in multiple directions. Fuck. I was just made CEO, something I’d worked hard for and desperately wanted. The news started to settle, and I grinned.
Then the news about Robbie hit me. Did I hear that last part correctly? Robbie on the board, but how? Robbie released me and headed to the door. He had a bounce in his step that made me smile. “But—”
“Don’t think, Maya. Enjoy the moment, revel in it. You deserve it.” He slapped his hand on the door frame and smiled back at me. “I’ll see you at seven.”
