When she doesn’t answer, I drop my hands and look over at her. “I’m a mean girl, aren’t I? Oh my God! I’m such a bitch.”

“I prefer shrew. It has a classier, more elevated feel to it,” she says with a smile. “Just go apologize, Kat.”

“Okay. I will!”

I hurry across the bar to the front door and walk outside just as I see them drive out of the parking lot. Damnit!

Rushing back inside, I sit down and try to figure out how to make this right. Yes, I can’t stand the man, but he didn’t deserve to hear me deliver both barrels of my hate for him tonight. Now I have to find a way to apologize, but how?

“What did he say?”

I push my piña colada away that tasted so wonderful before but now is like ash in my mouth. “They were pulling out of the parking lot by the time I got out there. I have to fix this, Sadie.”

“Just tell him you’re sorry tomorrow when you’re both back at the studio.”

“No! I have to fix this tonight, or I won’t get a second’s worth of sleep.”

Confusion comes over my roommate’s face. “Why? You hate the guy. Why would this make you not be able to sleep?”

It’s not impending insomnia that truly makes me want to fix this. It’s something far more personal.

“Because I don’t want to be a mean girl. For once, I want to be nice. So I need your help.”

“Of course. What do you want me to do?”

I reach down and grab her purse off the hook under the bar. Handing it to her, I say, “I need you to find out where he lives.”

As she reaches into her bag to get her phone, her eyes open wide in shock. “Really? You want to just pop over to his place to say you’re sorry? I’m not sure that’s what nice girls do.”

“Just get me the address.”

I can always count on Sadie to find out things for me. Back in high school, she became an expert level stalker when she suspected her boyfriend was cheating on her. He was, the pig, but since then, she’s been able to find out anything about anyone with just a few searches on her phone. I always joke thatshe belongs working in the CIA and not as an administrative assistant to some CEO.

While she searches, she asks, “Are you sure about this? You going over to his place could end up being a disaster.”

“It’ll be fine. I need to do this.”

“What if he gets all freaked out and thinks you’re stalking him?”

Leaning over to watch her do her magic, I answer, “That would be better than him thinking I’m a horrible shrew.”

A minute later, she holds her phone up in front of my face. “Found it!”

Now I just have to go there and make things right.

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Alex

As Cade drivesto the next bar we plan to visit tonight, all I can think about is what Kat said about me. Damn, she truly hates me. I don’t think I’ve ever had anyone hate me like this. I honestly don’t know what to do about it either.

“What the hell was wrong with staying at Jasper’s for a few drinks? I know Tim can be an asshole, but it was his bachelor party,” Cade says in frustration, unaware why I wanted to get the hell out of there so quickly.

“It wasn’t Tim. Tim was fine. Drunk, but fine. It was that cooking show person. Kat. She and her friend were at the bar.”

That’s not even close to a real explanation, but I don’t know how to go into the actual reason why I needed to get the hell away from that place.

At a stoplight, Cade turns to look at me. “The woman from the show? What the hell do you care if she’s at a bar we’re at? It’s not like you have to hang out with her.”
