“Charles Albert, don’t you Diane me! Charlie is right. She’s old enough to make her own decisions. If she says she’s in love, then we will not stand in her way. You didn’t like it when my father turned you down, I damn well won’t let you do the same to Charlie.”
My mother’s response shocks me. I had no idea that my grandfather turned down my father.
“I’m trying to look out for her. I want only the best for our daughter.”
“So do I,” Jude says. “And I promise you that she will always be loved and cherished. She will be taken care of and protected at all costs.”
“Then I guess I won’t be the one standing in your way.”
Relieved to hear him say that I wrap my arms around my dad and hug him tightly. “Thank you, Daddy.”
“I am warning you though, Your Royal Highness, if you break her heart I will not hesitate to break that pretty face of yours. The jail time would be worth it.” My dad says over my shoulder.
I hear Judd chuckle before replying. “I would deserve it. You have my word that her heart is safe with me.”
If only I believed that.
“I do not wish to cut our visit short, but I’m afraid we have a meeting with the king in a few moments. I do appreciate both of you meeting with us and understanding.”
My father grunts. “I need to get back to work anyway. I meant what I said, Prince Julius.”
“Understood.”
We both hug my parents’ goodbye and leave the wine cellar. Oscar guides us both back the way we came from and to the outdoor exit.
“I thought you said we had a meeting with the king?”
“We do. But I thought a walk through the gardens on our way into the castle would be nice.” Jude says with a warm smile.
