I pick a shred of the jerky I was eating when he came in from between my teeth. I’m going to need them filed again soon. I spent so much time in my Cait form over the summer that my teeth are too sharp to chew human food.
“Yourmate,” I say.
“I’m not giving him up.”
“What if she doesn’t like him?”
Luca scoffs like that’s not a possibility. He’s been infatuated with Rhodes since they met freshman year. I keep waiting for my twin to get bored with the human. The only person he should be eternally interested in is our mate. But from the wire that runs through my blood every time he sets eyes on Rhodes, Luca’s feelings haven’t faded yet.
“Go as your Cait,” Luca says.
“Why would I do that?”
“Because I’m asking you to.”
I shred another piece of jerky with my fangs. “Asshole.”
“Shit stain.”
“Knob gob.”
Luca chuckles and blows an air kiss at me. “You will, right?”
“For you. This is favor nine thousand seven hundred and fifty-six.”
“Explain to me why you’re still keeping track?”
“Someday, I’ll collect.”
“You’re such a fucking accountant.”
“There’s nothing wrong with being an accountant.”
“There’s everything wrong with being an accountant.”
“There’s everything wrong with being a Necromancer; being an accountant is normal.”
“There’s everything wrong with being normal.” Luca spins around in his chair again and props his Docs on the edge of his desk. “Wait until you smell her.”
“Better than the last time?” We met her for barely five minutes when we were high-school juniors and she was already working here at Bevington. Luca got a sniff of her. I didn’t manage to get that close.
Luca tips his head back, stretching his bare belly, licking his upper lip.
I chuckle at him. “Is she everything you wanted?”
He purrs deep in his throat. “And more. She’sfierce. She didn’t back down when I pushed. And I pushed hard.”
“Mmm. And her resonance?”
“Perfect. I’m still tingling.”
“How long do you expect me to stay away from our delicious-smelling, fierce, perfect mate?”
“Give me this semester.”
“You are deeply nuts.”
“I’m your brother. You owe me.”
