Page 75 of Hell & Back

She wanted to say ‘no,’ but she honestly didn’t know. She’d do her best to keep it from happening, though. Cutter had only ever been nice to her and she’d hate to see someone beat him up for what she was about to do.

“I know I’m asking a lot and I’m sorry.” He turned to stare out the windshield. “I’m trying to get Darren to come back to all of us.”

“Okay. I swear I won’t say anything to anyone, but if someone kicks my ass, meaning that big ass Darren, you have to nurse me back to health.”

“I promise I will, but I don’t think Darren’s going to kick your ass.” She tried to reassure him while squeezing his hand in gratitude. “I need to go inside and get the key to his room. I’m not taking any chances that he’ll shut the door in my face.”

“No. I’ll go get it. You stay here and lock the doors. The tinted windows should keep you from being seen.” He climbed out and waited for her to hit the locks. He made sure to survey the surrounding area before going inside. When he climbed back in, he handed her the key card and had to wait for a car to drive by before he could back out. He drove them down several doors, then pulled into a parking spot in front of room 164. He pointed to the door right in front of them. “That’s his room.” He turned toward her. “You sure you want to go in there? You want me to go in with you?”

“No. I’ll be fine. Just wait for me here.”

Before she could talk herself out of it, she exited the car and stood outside Darren’s door. Her hand was shaking so much she was barely able to get the key card in the lock without using the other hand to hold herself steady. She held her breath as the lockreleased. Slowly pushing the door open, she came to a complete stop. Her breath locked in her chest and she thought she might get sick. She quietly closed the door behind her and just stared, taking it all in at once. It took her a moment to process, but once she did, she still couldn’t believe what her eyes were seeing.

What. The. Fuck?

Darren was lying in the middle of a rumpled bed with a woman riding him like her life depended on it. The woman was moaning and had her head thrown back, her long black hair almost touching Darren’s thighs. Her hands were settled over Darren’s as he gripped her tight at the hips, helping her move up and down his length faster. She must’ve been in shock because in some fractured part of her brain, Kylie thought she should give the woman a ten for effort if not for form.

The blankets had been kicked to the floor at the foot of the bed and the sheets were tangled, half on and half off. Half empty or nearly empty bottles of alcohol were strewn about the table near the door and on the nightstand. Her heart tripped hard as her eyes landed on more than one opened condom wrapper.

As she continued to watch the man she’d given the other half of her heart to having sex with another woman, completely oblivious to the fact that another person had entered the room, she saw red. Blinding anger quickly took the place of hurt and betrayal. It was like tossing a match on gasoline.

“Honey, you have really pretty hair, but if you don’t get off my man, I’m going to yank it all out.” The couple instantly stopped and turned to see her standing next to the door.

“Kylie? What the fuck?” Darren’s voice was strangled, his brows dipped as if he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Well that made two of them then. And if he didn’t get his goddamn hands off that fucking bitch, she didn’t know what she was going to do.

The woman looked back at Darren, probably wondering what the hell was going on. Before Kylie realized she was doing it, she pulled the gun she’d gotten from her desk out of her purse and cocked the pistol. The sound was loud enough to be heard over the blood pounding in her ears as well as the couple’s labored breathing.

“One.” She pointed the gun at the bed. “You better hope I don’t get to three. Two.” The girl climbed off Darren so fast, she almost face-planted over the side of the bed in her haste to extricate herself from Darren’s hard cock. At least he wore a condom.

The woman grabbed her clothes and started yanking them on sans bra and panties. Those she shoved into her purse. Grabbing her shoes, she eased toward the door Kylie was still standing in front of. Mentally slapping her forehead, she moved away enough to allow the woman to escape. She could just imagine Cutter’s face when he got a look at the woman fleeing from Darren’s room. She’d have to remind him that that would be one of the things he swore never to talk about.

“Kylie,” Darren started once the woman cleared the door. He’d managed to get himself to the side of the bed and on his feet, holding a pillow in front of him.

“Oh, no, no, no, no! Don’t even start with whatever bullshit you’ve concocted in your head as a reason why you’re not at home right now fuckingme.” She shook her head for emphasis and lowered the hammer on the gun, then pointed it toward the floor. “You aresucha dumb ass.” Her emotions had been riding a roller coaster for way too long and she was tired. She just wanted to go home, go to bed and not wake up until everything was back to normal. She was tired of constantly fighting to keep her family together. Would things ever go back to being easy again?

“What are you doing here? How did you find me?”

Darren’s question pulled her out of her pity party for one. “I found you because I heard through the grapevine that a couple brothers saw you walking into a room with a woman and I had to see it for myself. I wanted to see who you were so willing to throw us away for.”

He clenched his teeth so hard, a muscle in his jaw ticked. His hand fisted in the pillow like he wanted to tear something apart. She wasn’t worried about him ever laying a hand on her, though. He’d cut off his own hand before ever laying one on her.

“You shouldn’t be here. It’s not safe. The Phantoms are still out there.”

“Well, Iwouldn’tbe here if it wasn’t foryou,” she commented snidely. She watched his shoulders slump in shame so she threw him a bone. “Cutter brought me. He’s waiting in the car. And just so you know, not you or any of the other brothers are going to kick his ass for bringing me here. He knew he was risking everything with the club, but came with me anyway to make sure I was safe.” She shoved her gun in her purse then she asked, “Why didn’t you come home when you got back?”

“I already told you, I don’t want to hurt you.”

“You already are!” She deliberately let him hear the pain in her voice.

“Goddamn it!” He slung the pillow across the room, knocking bottles to the floor then rubbed his hands across his face. “I’m sorry. I never meant to hurt you.”

“Too damn bad! You already did when I walked in here and saw that woman riding you like she was auditioning for a rodeo.” She paused, her eyes drifting to the nightstand behind him. “I’m guessing given the number of condom wrappers, you fucked her more than once?” She really wished he’d pull his jeans on or grab the other pillow off the floor to cover his dick. He was still hard and she couldn’t help but wonder how much pain he was in orhow much worse it was going to be since he didn’t get to come. When had he taken the condom off?

“Kylie,” he frowned deeply. “You don’t want the answer to that.” Noticing her eyes dropping to his exposed dick, he reached for a discarded towel and wrapped it around his hips.

“Yes, I do,” she argued, crossing her arms over her chest and cocking a hip.

“No, you don’t. Thinking something and knowing it for a fact are two different things.”
