With that, he pulls the door shut and leaves me in the dark, heavy silence. An unusual weight of grief consumes me. I've always tried to find the positive in every situation, but there is nothing positive about any of this.

Chapter 35

Barrett

"She could have gotten us all killed!" Sebastian says with his eyes still focused intently on Callie.

"You can't be in control of everything all the time. I asked you to trust me because I knew what I was doing. They would have never hurt me!" she yells at him.

"Maybe not you, but they could have hurt us! Did you even think of us before you waltzed right up to the front door?"

"Of course, I thought of you! You three are all I ever think about."

"ENOUGH!" I yell. "We need to clear this cabin, and then the two of you can do whatever the fuck you need to do to get your feelings figured out."

The two of them freeze in place and nod. We grab our guns, and Sebastian leads the way as we walk through the cabin, clearing every room, one at a time, first downstairs and then upstairs. The upstairs has a loft-like setup, with one side housing two separate sets of bunk beds and the other side a table with four chairs. Nothing here indicates there are any people who frequent this cabin outside of the three men we killed.

We reconvene in the room with the filing cabinets, and Sebastian still looks pissed. Callie should have stuck to the plan, but Seb needs to chill out. Everything worked out just fine. He's just so concerned with being in control all the time that sometimes he forgets that it's okay to follow someone else's lead. Callie's plan ended up being way smarter than anything that we had thought of anyway.

"There's no way we will be able to go through all of these files individually. I can't believe how many there are," Callie says as she pulls open one of the filing cabinets and flips through it.

"I'm going to run to the car and grab my laptop to see what's on this." I hold up the flash drive, and the three of them nod at me.

I make quick work getting outside and grabbing the bags I need in order to set up my own little traveling research center. Everything is set up on the kitchen table in no time, so I sit down to get to work. Kyler comes out to join me after a few minutes, and I raise a brow at him.

"Don't look at me like that. You know just as well as I do that they're being annoying as fuck right now." He walks to the refrigerator to look inside.

"They need to figure out this dynamic they've got going on. I thought having them bang it out would help, but clearly, we were wrong."

I huff as I pull open my second laptop. I like to have two so I can filter through things faster on the split screens.

"Stubborn one and stubborn two. They're way too similar for their own good." He walks over to me as I begin to type along on the screens and get my program set up.

"They'll figure it out. What's in the file she handed you?" I ask, noticing he brought it out here with him.

"Her parents." He sighs. "And not the ones that she was raised by. It's the full breakdown of her lineage, medical history, blood type, and even some photos. I don't know if she's ready to see this right now."

"You can't keep it from her, Ky. She's stronger than you two give her credit for. You should take some of your own advice and trust her a bit more."

I slide the flash drive into the computer and pull up my software, letting it do a full scan and back-up of the information before I open any of the files. I've learned the hard way to always back-up the information before trying to mess with it. Once I'm sure we can access the information, should anything happen, I click it open.

A folder with several breakdowns fills the screens in front of me. I eye the different categories to choose from: Rogue, Videos, Photos, Callie, Non-Rogue, Accounts, Misc.

I click on the accounts folder, and it opens up to list a series of offshore bank accounts. At least 15 are listed in their own individual folders as well. I open each of them to find full instructions on how to attain the funds and the exact amount of money the account holds. There has to be over ten million dollars here if I took the time to add it all up. I knew thesociety was corrupt, but I never thought it would have access to this kind of money.

I go back out to the main screen and open the folder that says Rogue. This appears to be similar to the names in the notebook, but instead of them just being names, they are each their own individual folders. I click them open to reveal a full, detailed list of information, similar to what is in the yellow folders of the room that Callie and Seb are still in. If we can confirm the information in the folders is the same as what's on this drive, we can grab a few of them to take with us and finish up the remaining research at home. It would be a lot easier if I had access to my full setup to analyze this.

I back out of this folder for now and click on the one labeled Callie. It looks like it has all of the information the folder Kyler was handed has, as well as some additional things. It tracks all of her doctor’s appointments and health issues. There is a full medical history, noting broken bones, hospital visits, and even pictures of some of her injuries. She told us how her father would hurt her often, and seeing this makes me want to raise him from the dead just so I could torture him slowly.

I scan through some of the other information quickly to see what else I can find. There is an entire list of properties owned by Rogue in one way or another. Some are close to the compound; others are scattered in other states. It’s a longer list than you would expect it to be. From the looks of it, Gabriel was buying houses through Sheriff's sales and putting them in his wife's name. I never thought of looking for things under hername, and I curse under my breath. He outsmarted me. I bet he was moving Callie between some of these places when he stole her from us.

When I back out of that file, I stumble on something labeled 'rainy day fund.’ Now that sounds interesting. When I click open the folder, it leads to a video of Gabriel and Damien talking in an office. I turn up the volume to max and listen to see why this particular video may be of importance.

Gabriel is sitting behind a desk, and Damien occupies one of the chairs in front of him.

"It could be as simple as that, Gabriel. You and I both know this is the best way to move forward with Rogue. What are we going to do when Austin and Steve die? They don't have anyone to take their seats," Damien says while waving his hand about.

"You think I haven't already thought of all of this. Rogue was mine for a long time before you were in the picture. If you want to stay a part of its future, I suggest you start remembering that."
