As they spoke about the past and she walked the halls of the ancient temple, she felt like she had come home. Even the one she had as a child never felt like this.

She yawned as they reached the entrance of the temple once more.

“You are tired, Emily, and your mate is eager to attend to your wound. It is throbbing, and he wishes to remove your pain.”

“It’s not that bad.”

“Logan loves you. It is for him.”

She left the temple and walked through the swirling mist to find Logan waiting. Legion and Mara were gone, but that didn’t surprise Emily.

“Hey,” she said

Logan kissed her cheek, and as his hand fell on her shoulder, a pulse of power infused her skin, removing the ache from her wound.

“I missed you,” he said.

“Was I gone long?”

“Only an hour, but I have waited a long time for you and find myself lonely when not in your presence.”

His words were so simple and raw. She leaned up and gave him a kiss.

He held her there, suspended in gentle ecstasy, before he broke their lips apart.

“Let’s get you back to the cabin.”

They strolled through a different tunnel on the way back and she noticed several gems attached to the walls, but when they passed an alcove with a large blue-scaled body, she stopped to stare.

“That is a beautiful color. Not as pretty as purple, but still gorgeous.”

Logan chuckled. “That is my brother, Ergen. He went to sleep not long ago. I am told he is even better with those computer contraptions than Natalie.”

She moved closer to the large scales as Ergen’s stomach rose and fell softly. “Can I touch him?”

CHAPTER 16

Logan arched an eyebrow at her. “Should I be jealous?”

She chuckled. “No.”

Emily’s memories surfaced in a rush of emotion as she recalled the blue dragon stuffed animal. It was a gift from her mother. It became her steadfast companion, a silent guardian accompanying her through the myriad adventures of youth.

That azure dragon, with its soft, velvety scales and gentle gaze, held a special place in Emily’s heart. It was more than just a toy; it was a conduit to the fantastical realms of her imagination. Across restaurant tables and birthday parties, even tucked discreetly into her school bag, the dragon journeyed faithfully by her side.

In the quiet moments before sleep claimed her, Emily would find solace in the presence of her dragon friend. Its serene countenance invoked visions of grand quests and noble knights, where valiant heroes clashed with mythical beasts to safeguard the realm. And she, the young princess, enveloped in a cocoon of dreams where anything was possible.

Perhaps it was the dragon’s tranquil slumber that reminded her of the simpler times of childhood when the world was brimming withpossibility. In the embrace of that azure guardian, Emily found refuge from the complexities of reality, journeying back to a time when dragons soared high, and brave hearts prevailed against all odds.

Logan approached the slumbering dragon, and she realized she had shared the memories.

“Place your hand on his tail. I will introduce you.”

She did as he asked, and Logan did the same. “How do you talk to a sleeping dragon?”

He placed his hand beside hers.Ergen, I apologize for the intrusion. My mate wanted to meet you. Emily thinks your dragon is beautiful.

There was a yawning sound as Ergen’s consciousness connected.Good day, brother. It is always nice to be admired. Welcome to my family, Emily.
