“I’m right here.” My breath quickened, heart pounding so hard I thought I might have a heart attack. “You’re going to make me come so hard right in your sweet ass. You feel fucking amazing, Evee.”
I dared to move a little faster, and it was enough to send me over. I shot in her so hard it was damn near painful. I tried to bite back the groan that tore up my throat but it slipped out as I was forced to catch my breath. I leaned into her, gasping as I filled her, my body shaking. I heard her little cries muffled against the bedsheets that she had crumpled underneath her.
When my cock stopped pulsing, I carefully slid out of her. I took several deep breaths as my heart finally started to slow. I reached for her, pulling her up with me then turning to sit on the edge of the bed with her on my lap.
“Talk to me, Evee, how bad does it hurt?”
She was quiet for a moment before she whispered, “I might need a wheelchair like Lena.”
We were silent for a mere second before we both burst out laughing.
She brushed her fingers against my jaw. “Not so bad. Definitely going to be sore. Still…I didn’t expect to like that as much as I did.”
I held her closer. For once, it felt quiet even in my head. There was a calmness between us. The anxiety was gone from her expression. Even if it was only for a little while, it was just us in the dark.
Eventually, we moved off the bed and into the bathroom, attempting to shower together in the tiny-ass tub. I cleaned her hair and then dried it after. I rubbed some of the oil on her skin, massaging where she still felt tense.
We found our way back to the couch and I wrapped her in the blanket. I started another fire before I sat beside her. I combed out her hair then continued to massage her thighs, her legs, then her feet. This is how it should have been in the beginning. Not me picking glass out of her feet that night in her old family house. This is how I should have taken care of her, and I saw even more how I had failed then, but I wouldn’t repeat it.
I knew she could handle herself but I wanted this. She was mine to take care of.
We didn’t speak for some time, watching the fire. Then I noticed the anxiety start to creep its way back in her features.
“I think we should talk about the test,” she said in a soft, tense voice.
I drew her hand into mine, entwining our fingers. “You know my answer. Whatever you decide…”
She took a deep breath, shutting her eyes. “I’m…not sure I’m ready for all that it takes to have a kid. And with what Severfallsdid to me…I know I wasn’t there long, but I don’t know how much of what they did affected my body. It might have been too early to affect anything. But it might not. Truth is, I’m terrified at what they might have started.”
I squeezed her hand gently. “You know I understand more than anyone.”
Her eyes fluttered open as she looked back at me. “But it’s ours too.”
“I know. You still have time, Evee. And no matter what, I will be right by you.”
She leaned in, leaning her head on my shoulder. “I know.”
“Andrea can help too,” I assured, wrapping her. “It hasn’t been long.”
“You’re sure you wouldn’t be angry if I—”
“I’m sure.”
She stared into the fire, her voice low. “So much has happened. I kept putting it off—thinking about everything—because I was afraid I’d snap. I thought I’d lost you, and I couldn’t bear it. Sometimes I’m still scared that this isn’t real, that it’s all in my head... that I really did lose you. And myself.”
“In time, you’ll see you didn’t,” I said softly. “And even if you do, I’ll be there to bring you back.”
CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
Something made me stir from my sleep. Not a nightmare this time. Or if it was, I thankfully didn’t remember. I didn’t wake up in a sweat or in a place I didn’t recognize. I only awoke from a deep sleep, thinking I’d heard Emery calling for me.
When my eyes adjusted to the darkness, Emery’s form came into focus beside me. His chest rose and fell steadily, his arm draped across me, his leg nearly entwined with mine. For several minutes, I stayed still, listening to the rhythm of his slow, even breaths before carefully inching out from underneath him.
Sitting up in bed, I glanced around. Through the window, the rain continued, though it had softened to a gentle drizzle.
I also noticed a light coming from the hallway through a crack in the door.
I rose from the bed and crept over to the door.
