“I don’t give a shit.”

“She’s expecting me to stay the night with her.”

“She also expected you to love her, cherish her, and not try to kill her. Yet, you’re selling her to me. As I said, never spendanother night with her. If I find out you have, I’ll cut your dick off and feed it to you.”

Trevor winced.

“The last thing is, I need you both to sign a contract. I’ll have our new consigliere write them up. I need you to get her to sign hers before she leaves the casino.”

Trevor raised his hand again.

“What?”

“We plan to eat dinner at the restaurant on the first floor. Then go see the show on the seventh floor. Then we’re going home. I don’t think I’ll have a chance to get her to sign it tonight.”

“You’ll have a chance. It’ll be delivered to you while you’re at the restaurant.”

“If I tell her what she’s signing, she’ll never sign it. How can I get her to sign without telling her what it’s really for?”

“She’s your wife for now. Figure it out. Bring both contracts to me by midnight.”

“Tonight?”

Raz spun around and grabbed Trevor by the throat. He squeezed until the man’s neck and face were red. Raz squeezed until Trevor almost passed out, and then he released him. Trevor’s weak ass dropped to the floor again.

“Do you understand the conditions?” Raz asked.

Trevor nodded, then rasped, “Yes, sir.”

“Oh, and one last question. Do you have kids?” Raz asked.

“Not together. I have a child. She doesn’t know.”

Raz gritted his teeth. He wanted to kill this bastard right now.

“But she has nieces and nephews who she treats as her own. They’re always at our house. And she’s always taking them places.”

That must’ve been who she was on the phone with earlier.

Done with this conversation, Raz told Trevor, “Wait ten minutes before leaving.”

Trevor nodded. “Yes, sir.”

Raz left the room, leaving the scheming husband of the woman he wanted behind. Outside the door, he straightened his shirt and tie before heading to the bar. He wouldn’t stop and talk to her.

He just wanted to get near her. He wanted to see her up close. A nervous feeling he hadn’t experienced since he was younger crept over him when he neared her. He was almost to her when she raised her head and stared up at him.

Their gazes met. This time, she could see him. Her eyes widened, and her lips parted. He stopped walking to stare at her. She froze midway in bringing her phone to her ear to watch him. At that moment, it felt like time stood still.

Even though he was in a casino full of people, it felt like they were the only two there. He didn’t know how long they remained that way, locked in each other’s stare. However, he knew what broke them out of their private moment. Trevorweak-assWilks, her husband, for now.

“Sorry it took me so long, sweetie,” Trevor’s grating voice filled the air.

His words pulled Rose’s gaze away from Raz. The smile that lit up her face was beautiful. For a moment, Raz found himself smiling back. Once he realized what he was doing, he schooled his face into a nonchalant expression.

That smile wasn’t for me.

“I didn’t think I’d be gone so long,” Trevor told her.
