Trevor nodded while grinning like a fool. “Over the years, I’ve had a fewthingson the side.” The man pushed up his silver-framed glasses that had slid down the bridge of his nose. “Now, I only have one. And I’ve fallen in love with her. She loves me, too. She knows about the situation I’m in. It was her idea to kill my wife to get the money.”
Damn. He’d fallen for someone as stupid as he was. Perhaps the two of them deserved each other. The question was, did his wife deserve to die just because he was a cheater and a gambler?
“You’re desperate for money,” Raz pointed out. “So, you came up with a wild plan to get it. Why didn’t you go through with your plan?” Raz asked, already knowing the answer.
Trevor hadn’t had the guts to do it. And the woman he thought he was in love with was only with him for the money. She probably didn’t have the courage to do it either. Nor did she want to go to jail for it later when they were caught.
“I’m not a killer. Neither is Erin,” Trevor admitted, pushing his dark blond hair out of his face. “But without that life insurance money, there’s no way I can pay you back. With it, there’s enough to pay you what I owe you, with some left for Erin and me to start our new life together. That’s why I’m here. I’mhoping, since I can’t go through with it, maybe you could help me out.”
“Help?” Cas asked. “How the fuck can we help?”
Trevor cleared his throat before continuing. “I’ve been your consigliere for five years.”
“Youwereour consigliere. Past tense,” Raz jumped into the conversation to correct him. “You lost that job three months ago when we learned you were cheating in our casino. I didn’t put a bullet in you then because I had to go to Italy to rescue our cousin, Marcel.”
“True,” Cas added. “I’d planned on killing you when we got back, but you showed up here and swore that you almost had the money raised. You lied to me, Trevor. And you know I hate being lied to.”
Trevor lowered his head. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to betray the Cattaneo family. I didn’t mean to lie. I’ve got a problem. I’m addicted to it, the gambling. It’s a disease.” He raised his head. “I plan to get help. I do. I really do.”
That’s what they all said. Some did seek help. Many didn’t. Gambling could destroy your life. Though he and his brothers owned casinos, none of them were big gamblers.
“I’m going to pay back every cent I owe,” Trevor promised.
“After you kill your wife, right?” Raz asked, drawing Trevor’s gaze his way.
“Right!” Trevor nodded like a bobblehead. “Well, aftersomeonekills her. I don’t care who it is. I don’t care who you send as long as it isn’t me. I plan to help, though. I can tell you where she is each day so you can set up the hit. I’ve got two policies on her.” Trevor faced Cas. “One will go to repaying you. The other, I’ll keep. The one that goes to you is enough to cover what I owe you and more. This is a great deal for both of us.”
A great deal? That was some bullshit. But this was between Cas and Trevor. Orazio would let his brother handle it. Tiredof listening to Trevor beg Cas for help, Orazio stood and strode over to the one-way glass panel to stare at the people passing by.
Directly across from the room they were in was the third-floor bar. To the right was the third-floor gambling area. Though he could see those passing by the window, they couldn’t see him. All they could see was a dark glass panel.
He gazed at all of the patrons drinking and gambling in his family’s casino. Some of them were only there to spend a little money. Just enough to take a chance on hitting it big. When they didn’t hit, they’d count it as a small loss but a good time and go home.
Others were only there for the free drinks. Sure, they played a little, but they drank more. Then there were those who’d already lost their rent money and were desperately trying to win it back. But the truth was, they’d probably end up losing more money.
Finally, there were those who’d reached the level beyond desperation. Those were the ones his guards were keeping an eye on to make sure they didn’t cause any trouble. You could usually tell by a person’s expression what level they’d reached.
Of course, there were a few who weren’t there to gamble at all. They simply liked the atmosphere. Those people usually hung out at the bar. There weren’t that many people sitting at the bar tonight. His eyes drifted over those present and landed on a woman with her back to him.
And there, his gaze remained.
CHAPTER TWO
Lust At First Sight
––––––––
He couldn’t look away from her.
Her hair was pulled up into some type of updo, revealing her slender neck. Her black dress dipped low off her shoulders, exposing her creamy brown skin. From where he stood, he could tell she had an hourglass figure.
It wasn’t until she stood up that he realized just how shapely she was. With her back still to him, she stretched her arm out and leaned against the bar to pay the bartender. Orazio swiped his hand over his mouth as a surge of arousal crashed into him, surprising him with its intensity.
Raz was a visual guy like any other man. But he’d passed the age where the sight of a sexy piece of ass would affect him this way. Or, so he’d thought. Maybe it wasn’t only the ass but the amount of ass she was toting that had his cock swelling.
Damn, she had more ass than his three exes combined. When she turned around, he realized her ass wasn’t the only thing she had going for her. Her face was even more alluring. She was stunning, and Orazio didn’t hand compliments like that out often.
The black dress that was draped over her curvy frame fit her like a glove. Her breasts strained against the silky fabric, begging to be set free. Who would be the lucky bastard to free them?
