Most had never even seen the inside of his office.
One of his assistants was so desperate she waited for him in his office one morning with nothing on but a tie. Apparently, his response was not what she’d expected.
Possessive energy filled Selene as she read more and more posts about women wanting Emir. He wasn’t really hers, but she felt like he was, and she didn’t like women talking about him that way.
The second thing she realized was that he didn’t consider any of his other assistant’s well-being outside of the tasks he assigned. They complained of having to drive or find Ubers early in the morning to the office, even in the snow.
Emir always sent Selene a private car. As a matter of fact, he was an ass about it-insisting she uses it.
They complained about missing lunch and trying to complete their tasks.
Emir had a full three-course lunch delivered to her office every day promptly at noon. That started three days ago when she went to the staff fridge to pick up her leftover Chinese food and found a note on his stationary telling her she could not eat that crap.
She stomped back to her office to give Emir a piece of her mind, but his handpicked lunch awaited her.
Filet Mignon and roasted Asparagus with mashed potatoes was not something you cursed anyone out over.
Lastly, none of the women, not even one, had ever been kissed or touched by him in his office. It seemed he took great pains to ensure work relationships stayed professional and distant.
Selene smiled to herself; in his own way, their relationship was the most intimate he had ever been at work. And, of course, their little run-in a week ago had shown that he didn’t have the same iron control around her as he did the others.
Armed with this new information, Selene got up, poured the remaining wine into the sink, and dropped the empty Pringles can in the trash.
It was time to work.
CHAPTER 7
Irritation
A
s Emir sat behind his desk watching Selene set up for her presentation, he was dismayed to find his resolve faltering.
He had managed to avoid Selene all week. He couldn’t face her after being such a jerk. He felt terrible for almost taking her like an animal in his office, and he couldn’t believe he actually told her he’d spank her if she were his.
Had he lost his mind?
He didn’t know what got into him. Well, yes, he did. Seeing all those fools staring at her while she worked brought out the Neanderthal in him. He knew she wasn’t his, but his dick seemed to disagree.
Emir kept his distance, but he also made sure she had everything she needed. Selene didn't take very good care of herself. She ate horribly, and she let random Uber and Cab drivers take her to work. She was always late and stressed, and he didn't like it.
So, he fixed it.
Yesterday, Jamel told him that she cursed a blue streak when he delivered the Shearling coat he’d bought her and a note of instruction about wearing a warm enough winter coat. He was tired of looking at her shiver in that stupid pea coat she wore.
In hindsight, he realized that may have been a bit over the top.
To apologize, he sent her a box of Coffret Maison chocolates and a note letting her know he looked forward to her presentation.
This was the first time Emir was alone with Selene, in person, since office gate a week ago. He was determined to be the picture of professionalism. He would keep his hands to himself, his eyes on her presentation, and his dick in neutral.
But Selene was wearing a red dress again and it did nothing but accentuate her mouthwatering curves. Her hair was hanging in loose curls down her back. His body automatically responded to her beauty. It seemed that he would have to accept that this would happen whenever she was around.
Selene started her presentation by greeting him with a tight smile before diving right into her proposal.
Emir did his best to be unmoved by her professionalism as she discussed the details of the contract and how KJR could make the most out of it. She spoke of how the library project could be about more than books. It could be a center for the communities that would help improve infrastructure and create economic stability for local businesses.
Emir found himself quietly nodding along as she outlined each clause in detail and how they could do more than what the World Bank was asking. It was obvious that Selene had done her homework and knew her stuff. Despite his best intentions, he couldn't find any holes in her proposal. Even if he wanted to undermine it, finding fault with her work proved impossible.
