“Would you like to dance?” Caleb asked.
“I’d love to,” Olivia looked over at Deja and she nodded. Olivia squealed as she walked to the dance floor with Caleb.
“I’m not much of a dancer but I can give it a try, if you want to dance?” Jason offered.
“No, I’m good,” Deja said with a smile.
“So, what do you like to do, Deja?”
“I’ve been in school for the last few years finishing up getting my master’s degree.” His raised eyebrow prompted her to explain. I had some family issues, and I started school later.
“Oh, I hope everything is better now.”
“Nope, it won’t ever be better, my sister was killed in a car accident a few years back and my family is finally coming to grips with it, but it was hard.”
“I’m so sorry to hear that.”
She gave him a faint smile. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to bring down the mood. I’m here to celebrate getting a job.” She raised a glass, and he tapped it.
“Well, that is a cause for celebration,” he said as he signaled his hostess.
“Yes, sir, what can I get for you?”
“I’d like to order a bottle of champagne.”
“You don’t have to…”
“No, I insist. That’s a big deal.” He said as Olivia and Caleb walked back to the table.
“What’s a big deal?” Olivia asked as she sat.
“We are going to drink to Deja’s new job.” Jason responded as his eyes stayed fixed on Deja.
Olivia smiled brightly. “Yes, I agree. It is a big deal.”
The hostess brought over the champagne and filled the glasses.
They all raised their glasses. “To Deja’s new job.” Jason paused. What are you going to be doing?”
Olivia proudly spoke. “She’s going to be the newest junior marketing executive at Farrow Corporation.”
Jason looked over at Caleb and smiled. “Well, isn’t this a small world?”
Olivia and Deja looked confused.
“Why?” Deja said as she narrowed her eyes at him.
“Because you are having drinks with your boss. Well, technically your boss, he’s everyone’s boss and part owner of the company.” Jason smirked.
Deja covered her mouth. “Are you serious?” she said as she looked back and forth between the two men before landing her eyes on Olivia. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know. I wasn’t trying to—”
“It’s fine, none of us knew,” he gave Deja a smile. “We are only having a drink. Congrats on the new job,” Caleb said as he raised his glass.
Deja looked at the time on her phone. “It’s getting late, and I have a few appointments in the morning, so thank you for the drinks, but I think we need to get going.” Deja said with a nervous smile.
“Come on Deja, it’s still early and we’re only having drinks, she said as she gave Caleb a seductive smile.
Deja gave Olivia the signal, and she ignored it. She did it again and Olivia let out a jagged breath.” Okay, okay,” she said, looking at Deja. “I guess we should be going.”
