“I believe so.”

“Maybe you should call Jasper to see if he knows anything.”

Chandra nodded as she called Jasper. After a few minutes, she disconnected the call and sighed.

“Jasper must know where Remy is.”

“He went to go confront his mom.”

I shook my head. “Okay, did Jasper say where?”

“At the Met Bistro.”

“Okay, let’s go.”

I grabbed my purse and followed Chandra out the door. I needed to stop Remy before he did something that he’d regret.

CHAPTER 19

Remy

I

pulled up to the Met Bistro and turned off the ignition. I remained seated, not sure if I wanted to talk to my mom about what happened. It had been a long time coming to finally confront my mom, but I wondered would it achieve anything? My mom wouldn’t take accountability for anything she had done; instead, she’d deny it, thinking she was only doing everything to protect me and my business, but she was only doing it to keep me under a short leash.

After five minutes of thinking, I finally got out of the car and headed inside. I asked my mom to meet with me before she went back to Miami. Honestly, I didn’t know why she was even at Abuela’s party. I knew she invited her, but her presence only caused trouble that no one needed.

I walked in to see her already seated. I told the hostess that my party was already there as I walked over to her. “I see you’re already seated,” I said while sitting down.

“I wasn’t going to wait on you to arrive. You are an important businessman,” she said with a smile.

I looked at her, clearly not up for the banter, as I thanked the server for my glass of water. I could tell my mom was hurt by how I was acting, as she frowned.

“Is everything okay, son?”

“No, everything is not okay.”

“Is it about DI? Oxford, which I told you was a bad investment.”

“And which I did not listen to you on,” I replied. I took a sip of water and stared at her. Her expression changed from sad to pissed while unfolding her napkin.

“I don’t know what your problem is, but you need to change your tone while talking to me.”

“Why, when you don’t respect me enough to make my own decisions?”

“What the hell is wrong with you?”

“You didn’t think I wasn’t going to find out what you did to Porsha?”

She scoffed. “That little heifer said something to you.”

“First off, don’t call her that. Second, you have the audacity to be mad at the plan that you created to get the love my life out of my life. And you did a good one by throwing her dad in it. Real smooth, Renee.”

“Don’t disrespect me out of my name, Remy.”

“Why, because you’re not acting like a mother to me.”

My mom looked as if she wanted to jump across the table and whup my ass, but she was not since we’re in public. She didn’t want no type of embarrassment, that’s why I chose to have this talk in a public place.
