“I can still read over it. If I’m going to be a part of the literary world, I should know what to expect with finding new talent, right?”

She still looked hesitant as she gave me a curious look. “You won’t critique my writing, will you? I’m a novice, so it might not be publishing worthy.”

“You won’t know that unless someone reads it.”

She sighed. “Okay, I can send you the file.”

I nodded.

“Ok.” I got up and headed to the door. I turned to stare at Porsha. “Thank you for trusting me to read your story.”

“No problem.”

I walked to my car, glad that Porsha and I had a positive conversation. I hoped that would be the first of many to come.

After leaving, I went home, ready to get out of these clothes, shower, and rest. I was a bit eager to read Porsha’s story, so it would be interesting to see if she wrote about anyone in her life. It could be about our relationship.

I turned on the water for my shower as I thought about Porsha. The two of us had been through a lot. Although we’re not in the best place, I still did think about her. She still had an effect on me, which I hated to admit. I just wished things could have worked out between us because we would have been great together…

March, 2012…

“Where are you taking me?” Porsha asked.

“I said it was a surprise, so you’ll have to wait,” I said while I had my hands over her eyes. I was guiding her towards my gift to her, which I planned over the last three months.

“You know I hate surprises.”

“I know, that’s why I like doing them.”

“Wow, you’re mean.”

“I’m not, I’m just spontaneous.”

“That you are.”

“So, you need to trust me on this. You will like it, trust me.”

“I’m holding you to that.”

We approached our destination as she held onto my wrist. I waited until she let go before I took my hands from her eyes. She was purely shocked at what she saw.

“Oh wow, Remy. This is beautiful.”

She looked at the golden lights accentuating the gazebo overlooking the harbor, as the water calmly moved from the wind gusting the night sky. The stars added an eccentric touch, making the scene absolutely breathtaking.

Even I had to take a look back as I took in the picturesque view. “This is amazing.”

“What made you do this? It’s not like we’re celebrating anything special.”

“We’re not, but I wanted to do something nice for you. You have always been in my corner, giving me the love and support that I always needed. So, this is just a thank you for being the person that you are.”

Porsha smiled. “Well, I love this. Thank you, baby.” She came over to me and hugged me.

“I love you.”

“I love you, too.”

“For the evening, we’ll be having a candlelit dinner, dancing under the stars and just being together, alone mind you, at this secluded area near the harbor.”
