REMY
Ten Years Ago….
“A
re you ready?”
I glanced at my beautiful girlfriend, who looked exceptionally sexy dressed in a form-fitting black dress that was hitting in all the right places. If we didn’t have to go to my abuela’s birthday party at my parents tonight, I would have stripped that dress off of her. She knew she looked good, which was one of the qualities that I loved about her.
Porsha Baxter and I met through a mutual friend two years ago and had been inseparable ever since. Before Porsha, I didn’t really believe in love. Honestly, I didn’t think I would have fallen in love with Porsha but, with her driven personality, I knew I couldn’t resist her. So much had changed for us, and I was hoping with my newest venture, she would take part in it. I was excited for this new journey, and I wouldn’t want anyone else by my side for it.
Her dark brown ponytail swished from side to side as she turned to face me. She decided to straighten her hair for the occasion, since it was always curly. Whether it was straight or curly, she was just gorgeous.
She gave a bright smile while walking to me. “I have to look extra gorgeous for your family.”
“You know that’s not hard to do, baby. They love you regardless.”
“I know they do.”
“You’re trying to impress my family, but what about me?”
“You see me every day, so you should be used to my face,” she said with a chuckle.
“Which I can never get tired of.”
Porsha became quiet as she turned back around to the mirror. The smile she had slowly diminished as she looked at her reflection.
“Is everything cool?”
She nodded. “Yeah, everything’s fine. I just thought about something, that’s all.”
“What’s that?” I asked while coming behind her. My hands moved down her shoulders, as she gave a content sigh.
“Things has been going so well for you. You’re about to start a new business while I’m still trying to figure myself out.”
“How many times do I have to tell you that you will find your way with your career? A lot of people have to figure out what their plan is before doing it.”
“Remy, I’m almost 30 and I don’t know where the hell I’m going. You have everything figured out, and I don’t.”
I turned her around, so I could look in her brown eyes. I reached for her lips, giving them a tender kiss before staring at her again.
“Do you know how long it took me to figure out what I wanted to do?”
“You’re about to start a business.”
“I am, but that was a long time coming. I had to do a lot of shit to get to where I am. I had to ask my parents for collateral and get several loans. Honestly, I don’t even know if it will be successful, but it has to be. I don’t have room for failure because my parents will surely kick my ass if it does.”
“You know it won’t. And your parents love you, so they’re proud of what you have accomplished so far.”
“Just like I’m proud of you. You’ll find your way, and I will be with you ever step of it. Don’t forget that, okay.”
