I didn't have time for Teddy's circle talk or head games. There was still a major blaze surrounding us, and Judy-Lynn would arrive any moment… assuming she planned to come at all.
My door opened. “I'll call you back.”
I hit the end call button and then waited with bated breath to determine Judy-Lynn's state of mind.
But she didn't enter my office—Cat did.
She stood in my doorway in a raincoat and heels. It didn't take a genius to figure out that she was naked. The universe didnotlike me today.
“I got tired of waiting, so I thought I'd give you a reminder of old times.” She opened her coat, dropped it to the floor, and sauntered out of the fabric pile.
At that moment, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I loved Judy-Lynn, and I had to get Cat dressed and out of my office before she arrived or I really would lose her forever. The cold dread that laced my spine and settled in my balls was absolute. I was already on thin ice, the office scandal was a gaping hole, and a naked ex was hypothermia.
“Get dressed and get out.” I rushed to pick up her raincoat and covered her body. “I love my girlfriend. You’re not going to mess that up.”
Cat frowned. She threw her arms around me. “Surely you're not passing up all of this?”
“Ryu, We have a—What the hell is this?” Judy-Lynn put her hands on her hips.
“We're busy. Get out,” Cat yelled.
“Youget out,” I replied.
Cat looked between Judy-Lynn and me with narrowed eyes. She draped her coat across her arm and then sneered. “Baby, don't tell me you're doing the homely secretary thing.”
“I got your homely secretary, you gold-digging, clout-chasing Darbie doll.” Judy-Lynn sprang forward.
I caught her before she could reach Cat. “She's not worth it.”
She relaxed against my chest. I breathed a sigh of relief. Crisis averted—for a heart beat.
Cat must have made a gesture from behind me because Judy-Lynn growled at her. “I'm not afraid of plastic. It melts like everything else when it’s on fire.”
Cat sniffed, then walked past us, still holding her coat. Judy-Lynn swiped at her and I tightened my hold on her.
“Baby, call me when you get hungry.”
“He's not your baby, you malnourished celery stick.”
Cat huffed but thankfully left because one more word out of her and I would have let Judy-Lynn go and hire the legal council later.
I did wish she would've at least put her coat on before she left.
CHAPTER 19
Judy-Lynn
I
wiggled in Ryu's vice grip for several moments. It was just as well. I was so angry that I was liable to catch a case. The morning was a double—no, a triple shit show, even for a Monday. I spent the weekend working my aggression with a standing punching bag and a marathon ofParis in Springtimebooks. I was sane that morning until I saw Ellen's email where she called me easy.
It wasn't from her address, but I know it was her because it was signed “Hater,” which I called her at Cafebucks. The coincidence wasn't lost on me—this time.
Then a broken-down naked Darbie doll insulted me.
“I'm not going to go after your toy.” Defending myself was one thing. Fighting over a man was another. I would never.
“She's not mine.” He straightened his shirt.
