He turned toward me and winked in triumph. The curve of his lips formed a mischievous grin, and I knew there was no living with him. For some reason, a vision of Dragon in cosplay stuck in my mind. His mouth was shaped the same when he thought he tripped me up in a debate at the masquerade ball over which book was the best.

I’m doing it again.

It couldn't be him. Dragon was an uber Martini. Ryu had base knowledge at best. But my brain wouldn't shake the notion like before.

There was only one way to solve the issue. If I were going to move forward, I would have to ask him so he could look at me as though I was ridiculous and I made it up to him in bed.

And it was ridiculous too. My life was crazy. I already had an affair with my boss. Why did I have to upgrade it to epic by adding the secret identity to it, too?

Be better, girl.

I cleared my throat. “Are you...?”

“Let's eat and sing together. You can go first, Mr. Dragon.” Brookelynn and MJ ran into the living room

I nearly broke my neck, snapping my attention on Brookelynn. “What did you say?”

She preened. The kid loved it when she could show off her intelligence. I wasn't mad—at least not at her. “Ryu-san means Mr. Dragon.”

“That's amazing.” I glared at him. He had the grace to be as pale as mozzarella.

I guess I don't have to ask the question. His response tells me everything I need to know.

How could I have been so stupid? It was in his name and the company's name. At least I know that mumbling under his breath during sex was Japanese, not him speaking in tongues.

The familiar Spanish guitar opening of Devin Blake'sSorry, Babybegan to play as Ryu stood before my television.

“I woke up alone.

The sheets were cold.

Loneliness is old.

How can I atone?

For what I did that day

Baby, please stay...”

His voice wasn't half bad for a lying, ghosting jerk.

MJ crawled into my lap, munching on a slice of pizza and humming Baby Shark as Ruyu attempted to apologize through his song choice. It might have melted me if I had experienced the full effect. I might have even folded. The five-year-old kept me from sliding too far from my fury precipice and on the cliff of anger. It was enough for me to keep him accountable.

Hours later of singing and movies, it was four o’clock. Brooke and Marcus were surprised to see Ryu when they arrived. My friend got a glint in her gray eyes that said she wanted to dish. She would either send Chantel ahead to interrogate me or wait until they could double-team me. Brookelynn and MJ would be the first victims, regardless.

“Ja ne, Ryu-san.”Brookelynn bowed and then hugged his legs. “I want one of each, so MJ has a boy cousin too.”

“Okay, baby girl, let's not instigate.” Marcus took her by the hand. MJ was on his hip.

“Brookelynn, that is adult conversation.” Brooke chastised, then leaned closer to her daughter’s ear. “We will talk later.”

She then hugged me. “Have fun.”

Then the Thompson family traitors left me alone.

“That was worse than the interrogation Crystal put Jaime and Les through.” I shut my door.

“We better be careful at Love Con then since Brookelynn is trying to marry us off and get cousins.” He rubbed my shoulders.
