Conjecture and rejection made me lust after the next hot penis I encountered. Not Ryu Tsuki.
Not only was he not my type, but I also preferred monogamy in my partners when I was with them. I shared my feelings, not my man. Selfish was my game.
And he was my boss. What did I look like hopping on his lap and riding him into the sunset when I talked trash about him on the Bosses Be damned sites? A hypocrite, that's what, especially since I saw gossipy posts about some users getting involved in tawdry affairs that would titillate any romance reader connoisseur's palate. I didn't want to go out like that.
Ryu Tsuki was hot, though. Solid forearms and the athletic build that I fantasized about, not too small and not too muscular. Asian guys never looked in my direction, at least not those I encountered. They went after the white girls or Asian girls. Daisy's existence clearly proved that some enjoyed coffee or darker teas. I wonder—
Ryu Tsuki's eyes were the color of black tea with honey that hadn't steeped too long. Whenever he focused on me, my mind blanked, and irritation was all that could get me back to my right mind.
There I admitted it. Now I could get back to work and my head out of the clouds.
“—tell me, or do I have to wait for the meeting?” Daisy put her hand on her hip.
We were in front of her cube. I only remembered the last few steps.
“The meeting.” I wasn't a hundred percent sure what she had asked me. However, the context clues gave me an idea without admitting that she rattled my cage with the dating Ryu Tsuki comment. “This way, I only have to go over once, and I won't leave anything out.”
She shook her head. “Am I going to be pissed?”
“It's extra work, but we are the best at crushing the competition. It’s what we do.”
Daisy nodded. “That's true.”
I glanced at my watch. The morning muster would begin in the west cube quad alley in a few moments. I had just enough time to head over to the opening. “We have about a minute.”
Cube city, as we called it, was a network of cubes with four-foot-tall walls. It was enough that we could see everyone as they worked, but the aisles were far enough apart that the side neighbors were out of each other’s faces. Getting along with cube mates was a must since there was a shared wall.
I arrived at the west opening, where someone put up a sign that said, “Welcome to the wild west.” Many lurked around the space, but several simply watched me from their chairs with a lack of interest.
I held up my hands. “A few housekeeping items before our paper ball fight. One, we are so awesome that we will release Amber in both Robot and Fruity stores for beta at Love Con. Leads, we will have a meeting in an hour. Two, those participating in the paper fight, please leave for the battleground now, as the war will begin in two minutes when the timer goes off.”
About half of the group left for the relaxation area. It was considered goofy by some, but there were workplace engagement professionals that swore that activities like the paper fight released stress and encouraged employee interaction. From what I could see, it worked. The tension in the departments considerably eased.
Those who didn't participate weren't as uptight because I didn't force them into a kumbaya activity. They used the time to relax how they wanted.
The fun part was all of the project leads—the very ones who kept the division between the departments—participated.
A win was a win.
Now all I had to do was realign the project to beat Jerry and Aroma. At least the work would keep a no-good dragon off my mind. In fact—
I slipped my phone out of my pocket, thumbed up my account onInstafame, then hit the block button on Dragon.
He didn't have to worry about replying. He knew my thoughts, as indicated by the read icon on the message, and he had my card. There was nothing else to say.
I had a project to manage and no time for a scrub.
Your loss, second place.
CHAPTER 10
Ryu
“S
he blocked me?” I stared in disbelief at my screen. There was a notification on my screen when I clicked on her profile, and my ability to reply was no longer in the DM window.
When did that happen?
