Drew's mother Nancy pipes in. "Our sons told us you have time to have breakfast with us this morning."
Just. Great.
"We've never had time to hang out. It'll be fun," Kim, Haddon's mother says, a small smirk gracing her face.
The three women look so different. Ava is wearing a bohemian type of outfit, with a printed flowing skirt and shirt. A pair of cloth shoes adorn her feet.
Kim is wearing a pair of black bootcut jeans with low heels. She covers the matching dark-blue tank top with a light-yellow gauzy blouse.
Nancy is the epitome of a business woman. The crisp white blouse fits her curves right down to the pencil skirt she's wearing, which reaches right above her knees. My eyes go down to the black patent-leather pumps she's wearing. Her chin lifts, with a small smile drifting across her face. "Come on. We don't have much time. I have a business meeting in a couple of hours."
Cursing the guys for giving me no warning, I place my briefcase on my desk and secure the strap of my purse over my shoulder. Taking a deep breath, I follow them out the door and onto the elevator. There is complete silence as we ride down the elevator. I've never had this reaction to them before, I don't know why I'm starting now.
Even though the situation is different, it doesn't mean I should be scared. These ladies have always been nice to me. We even talk and laugh.
But right now, silence.
When we get off the elevator, all eyes are on us as we make our way to the front door. I'm used to this with the guys, but not the mothers. The three of them are stone faced all the way out the doors and to the limo.
Once we get inside, all their faces relax. "I hate walking through that lobby. A private entrance is needed."
Nancy relaxes in her seat.
I shake my head. "In order for them to continue to be the faces of the company, they need to show them. It's all about transparency."
"And deniability if they're accused of something," Ava states. "With their faces in the spotlight all the time, if something happens, it can be said that they were walking through the lobby in front of everyone. Plausible deniability. There!"
Kim rolls her eyes at them, then they land on me. "We just want to know how you landed our sons. They've never shown interest in anyone until you, and that was way before you finally got together."
"Just so you know, we approve." Ava's warm glance settles me.
I frown. "Are you sure you want the whole story of how we got together? I don't want to horrify you." At all three of their eager nods, I acquiesce. "Don't tell them I told you. Please."
"Honey, your secret is safe with us." Nancy does the lip zip motion and lock across her lips.
Explaining to them what happened is harder for me than them, but I get it all out. When I finish, satisfied looks come across all their faces.
"Good." Ava nods. "Good. You're an amazing woman and perfect for them."
"Thank you all so much. What are we doing now?" I ask. Once they get everything out of the way, I think they'll take me back to the office.
Nancy throws a hand in the air. "Just like we said. We're going to breakfast. This will be a once-a-week thing, so your men will have to get over it."
"Okay." I laugh.
"No one, but no one knows what happens at breakfast. Got me?" Ava raises an eyebrow.
I frown, my eyes widening. "Got you. My lips are zipped." I repeat the motion Nancy did just a little while ago.
Breakfast is fun and amazing. I definitely look forward to doing this once a week.
"Where is she?" Marsten does his usual grumble as he paces around the office.
Drew leans back in his chair. "She's probably in a meeting someplace. Her briefcase is here." He turns to me. "You stayed with her last night. Where is she?"
"She was gone when I woke up this morning. I figured she had an early meeting like Drew said. Didn't think much of it." I shrug.
Marsten continues to pace, then stops, looking up. "What if they called her to come for information?"
