I tapped her name in and waited until it started ringing.

Jordyn answered the phone. “Girl. What happened?”

“The tyrant laughed in my face. But it’s fine.” I whispered.

Jordyn replied immediately. “What the fuck? You have got to be kidding me. Wow! That’s insane.”

“It’s ridiculous. This man really got me out here slaving.”

“Damn, he’s bogus.”

“I’m going to start job hunting. I’m going to up and bounce on his overseer ass. No two weeks’ notice. Just two weeks of me looking for another job, even if I have to go through another staffing agency.”

“I’m sorry girl. I thought he was coming around.”

“I thought so too. He wasn’t yelling as much. He’s been staying in his office and not really bothering anybody.”

“He is a fuckin’ asshole for real.” Jordyn concluded.

“He told me he didn’t want to look at my face permanently, or something like that.”

“What’s that mean?”

“I guess I’m ugly.”

“Well, we know that’s a boldface lie. That’s not even an option. I don’t know why he would say something so stupid.”

“Cause he’s stupid. I give up. I’ve done a lot in the three months I’ve been here and that bastard could care less. Fuck him.”

“We can go out and celebrate tonight.”

“What are we celebrating?” I asked. I was too upset to think.

“That you’re looking for a job and you will be away from that evil bastard very soon. And then you don’t have to look at his hard face.”

I smiled at her optimism. “I appreciate you for finding any reason to go out for drinks.”

“I’m going to drive to your house. On this here, good Friday night, we can Uber to the club.”

“A club?”

“Yes. We can drink and dance.” Her encouragement warmed me. “You only have a few hours left. Try to avoid the big bad wolf.”

“Don’t you mean the big blonde wolf?”

“That too. Fuck him. He looks boring.”

“I’ll be at your place at 9 PM. Be ready in your dancing shoes cause we gonna act up, and then back that thang up.”

“Okay. I got to go back to work. Everybody is back from lunch.”

I ended the call and set my phone face down on my desk.

I stared at the computer screen, but I can’t focus on work. Frustration and anger churn inside me. I’ve given everything to this job. Long hours, sleepless nights, all while being belittled and dismissed by Kyle. And for what?

I was still trippin’ on the fact he didn’t even bother to consider me for a permanent position. He just laughed in my face.

My heart pounded as I typed up my letter of resignation. In two weeks, I’ll be free of this nightmare. I started composing an email to HR about my departure. I was going to make sure Apex was the last to know. I hid the letter in a file on my computer. I was going to send it the minute I was walking my Black ass out the door.
