“It has to be hard, trying to keep your relationship with your boss a secret. I know the company has a no dating policy between boss and employees.”

Deja frowned. “I’m not in a relationship with my boss. Stephen couldn’t really stand me until a few days ago.”

Jason smiled as he took a sip of his drink. “The way he was looking at you throughout the entire meeting, and the way he looked at me when I asked you to dinner.” He touched her hand. “And you, the way you looked over at him when I asked you out – like you wanted him to intervene.”

Deja retracted her hand. “You don’t know what you are talking about.”

“You can lie to me, but don’t lie to yourself,” Jason said as he tipped his glass towards her.

Deja rolled her eyes. Whatever. So, are you really buying that company?”

“Already brought it. The deal was pretty much done. I was waiting for one more contract and my attorney sent it to me right after our meeting. You are now looking at the new owner of GennTech and your presentation was very well done. I think that campaign is going to be amazing.”

“Thanks,” Deja smiled. “And congrats on your new acquisition.”

“You have a beautiful smile. I hope he appreciates you.”

“So, what company are you going to buy next?” She said jokingly as she ignored his last comment.

They continued to talk, but Jason didn’t mention Stephen again.

Jason dropped Deja at her door. “I had a great time; I hope you will let me take you out when I’m in town again.”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“Call Stephen, if that’s who you want.” Jason kissed her on the cheek. “I will see you soon.” He watched her walk into the house before getting back into his car.

Stephen was waiting at Deja’s house when Jason pulled up. He had been waiting to talk to her, but when he saw Jason kiss Deja, he saw red. He jumped out of his car and headed towards them. When Stephen reached her house Jason had already pulled off and Deja was in her house. He debated whether to knock on her door when his phone rang. It was Deja.

“Hello?”

“Hey Stephen, I think we need to talk.”

“Open the door.”

“What do you mean?”

“Deja, open your front door.”

A few seconds later, the door opened, and Stephen walked in and closed the door behind him.

Stephen walked into her living room and paced back and forth. His emotions were all over the place. When he saw Jason kiss her, he wanted to punch him in his fucking face.

“Stephen, what are you doing here? Were you following me?”

“No, I was waiting for you. I needed to talk to you. Then I saw Jason kiss you and I…,”

“Stephen, it was a kiss on the cheek. He was saying goodbye.”

“I don’t care. He was touching you.”

“What are you trying to say?”

“I don’t know…,” he ran his hand harshly through his hair. “When you walked into my office, all I wanted was to find ways to fire you. But there was something about you, I felt it the first time I stood close to you.” He paused as he ran his hand over his face. “I’ve held on to my anger for so long, I’m not sure what to do without it.” He moved closer to her as he gently gripped her face with his hand. If anyone had told me a year ago that this would happen, I never would've believed them.” He pulled her face into his lips and kissed her. I want you, Dee, I want to explore the possibilities of us,” he said before kissing her again.

“I called you because I want to talk to you about the same thing.” She placed her hands over his. “I want to explore us, too. But how do we do it? I love my job and I know that the company has a policy against workplace relationships.”

It’s my company. I made the rule, I can change it. Look, I’m tired of trying to hide my feelings. I really like you and I want to be with you.
